I’m torn. I can understand the guy feeling like he does. I don’t agree, but that’s OK. I can even understand taking that action. Again, I don’t agree, but I can understand. I am not defending Ms Fonda for what she did lo, those many, MANY years ago, and I ceratinly don’t wish to be seen agreeing with Mr Moto 😉 , but what do you expect from a total twit at any age? And trust me, my conservative friends, most of us liberals distanced ourselves as far from that stupid cunt as we could. Seeing what Mr Smith did I am glad to know that, while I get mad quickly, I can’t hold a grudge for thirty minutes, much less thirty years. To hold that anger in, letting it grow and fester for so long, must have been difficult. I hope he didn’t let it take over his life. But running like a little girl afterwards, I mean, what was he thinking? ---

All this talk about the “enemy” makes me wonder if any of you know what the war was about. Vietnam was not our enemy, they didn’t attack us, they weren’t trying to take away our freedom, we were over there in their country shooting at them and bombing them. None of this should reflect badly on the vets, however, they were just doing their job. Jane Fonda was trying to end the war and stop people on both sides from being killed. She might have been more effective if she had two brain lobes to rub together. ---

Ms. Fonda might have been more effective if, say, she had _actually protested the government’s instigation of the war_ instead of supporting the people who were trying to kill the vets who were just doing their job. ---

This phenomenon of people masquerading as Vietnam vets is quite widespread. They found one of these guys who was very active in a local group-he turned out to have been 12 years old, at the time of the end of the Vietnam War. Must be a repressed desire to walk around in jungle fatigues, or too many times watching war movies! ---

Protesting the actions of the government can be a deeply patriotic act, as in Thoreau’s refusal to pay his poll tax in protest of the Mexican War. But giving aid to the enemy and posing for cheesecake photos on the weapons that slaughter your countrymen is quite another. OYOH, I would like to see her assailant’s military record; something about him is setting off my my “faker” alert. Saying that there were people lined up at LAX to spit on the troops coming out of the jetway? No way that ever happened or that airport security would allow it. ---
