I think a good question here is how is it that the large Vietnamese community was unable to continue influencing the American government into not dealing with the communist government in Vietnam while the Cuban exiles remain a strong force preventing any commerce with Cuba.

Or in a History class, or even in a class showing the banners used by groups in the community.

Was the Vietnamese community in the US really trying to do that? Quite a number of Vietnamese-Americans–even those who fled the communist regime–return to visit Vietnam.

I was under the impression that it was another group, US military who had fought there, that didn’t want the US government to deal with the current regime in Vietnam.

Obviously, it could have been both groups contributing to that reluctance by the US government to deal with Vietnam’s government.

Even if the Vietnamese community was as opposed to Vietnamese government as Cuban exiles are, they are more spread out than Cuban-Americans, who are concentrated strongly in Florida, an important swing state where neither party wants to alienate a big chunk of the voters.
