"Someone left the cake out
in the rain…
And I don’t think
that I could take it
'Cause it took so long
to make it
And I’ll never have
that recipe…
AGAAAAAIIIIINNNNN! OOOOOHHHHH! NNNNOOOOOOO!!!"
Sorry. I can’t see the name of that park without breaking out into song. I get all caught up trying to figure out who left the recipe out in the rain, because that’s the only explanation I can come up with for why that singer is in so much agony about a cake that can’t ever be made again. Maybe she’s out of eggs, I dunno.
Hate to see my old home town trashed unnecessarily.
US One and 288th isn’t the freshest part of south Dade by any stretch. Hardly even seems to be in the same part of the world as SoBeach. But heck, it isn’t really a bad neighborhood.
Coral Castle is a tourist destination, and it is at the intersection of two major roads. This makes it easy to get to, but also easy to get away from if one is a ne’er do well. Tourists typically carry photographic equipment and other personal possessions worth significant bucks. (“The tourists all have money” said Sam, “their wives have rings of gold. Their mopeds all are pawnable; their cameras can be sold.” Shel Silverstein, The Great Conch Train Robbery)
Some of them are the vacuous, mouth breathing type completely unaware of their surroundings, or perhaps so befuddled by jet lag and travelers’ stupefaction as to fail to notice the group of young gentlemen approaching with shark-like smiles on their faces. That’s why the signs urge vigilance.
Same could be said, though, for almost anyplace. With signs or without.
I’m a his, not a her’s and it seems that I’m having a very hard time in this thread. I’m not slamming your old neighborhood and I agree that there are plenty of neighborhoods that are dangerous. I was just reporting what I read in the paper and what I observed in the area around the Coral Castle; it is one of the last places on earth that I would hate run out of gas or have a flat time. In any event, the OP has elected to visit the place and if the neighborhood has changed for the better since the time I lived there, I hope she will return and tell me I don’t know what I’m talking about, which would not be a new experience.
