# Vista SP1

I vaguely recall people complaining about it for some reason. My computer is prompting me to download it, is there any reason to avoid it?

Get it. It handles large file transfers MUCH faster. Also, it’s always recommended to have the latest patches and updates installed for security.

It’s a must-apply patch. But don’t get the one from Automatic Updates, download the redistributable version, then apply it.

IIRC, I think the redistro is a HUGE install while the auto update scales things down a bit to make downloading it easier. Either way, get it.

Back up your system before you install it. With every service pack, there is a significant chance that things will go wrong.
