Vive Charlie Hebro! French mag publishes naked Muhammad cartoons

As your brief time on this board nears its close, have you given any thought to how you’d like to spend the rest of your life? More specifically: have you learned any lessons from the countless mistakes and failures that led you to this point, that may yet redeem you as a human being over the handful of air-sucking years you have left?

1801 would be when the first frigates arrived on the shooores of Tripoliiii and officially started mucking about with the region.

Hell, a shitstorm would be relatively harmless. These extremist Muslim dickheads destroy shit and kill people over it.

And it’s not unnecessary provocation. They’re essentially trying to intimidate the West into not printing things that they don’t like by acting like some kind of unholy combination of toddlers and huge bullies with molotov cocktails.

Printing the comics and a bunch of stuff like them is a big middle finger to them, but not because we hate Islam or we hate Muslims, but because we hold freedom of speech dear, and we’re saying fuck you to them for trying to intimidate our exercise of that right.

Not that long ago, we invaded a Muslim country for no good reason, and killed thousands of their co-religionists. Do you recall any apologies, any remorse, any acts of contrition? And here we are, delivering sanctimonious lectures on how civilized people are supposed to behave, how other people’s rights must be carefully preserved.

They have a point. I wish they didn’t, but they do.

I don’t know if there’s a word for this, but my theory is that if you repeat an insult over and over, each iteration becomes less and less potent. A muslim cannot become twice as angry in response to 2 depictions of Muhammed, let alone a million times as angry if there were a million YouTube videos and newspaper cartoons.

At some point they become background noise and “outrage fatigue” sets in. We’re a long way from that point, however.

Ordinary people might feel “outrage fatigue” but it isn’t ordinary Muslims who are committing violent acts. Crazy people of any religious stripe thrive on outrage.

Everyday Muslim outrage looks more like this:

And the bidding starts at $100,000 by the Honourable Minister of Railways from Pakistan.

At least if someone has to die for the right to shit on others (which is rediculous), this might help (also rediculous) it be the one responsible as opposed to some poor bastards half a world away who were just peaceably doing their jobs.

Fuck them all. Fuck the ones who go out of their way to antagonize. Fuck the ones who over-react by killing.

No, fuck the ones who think it’s OK as long as it’s the film-maker that gets killed and who would be quite content with the chilling effect that would have on the freedom to speak your mind about any religion.

The guy made a film making fun of Mohammad. Big fucking deal. The day we can’t do that, for whatever reason, is a day we should all hope never comes, although I guess you’d be leading the cheering section on that day.

Innocents should not die due to other person’s fights.

Well, you know, they aren’t quite as civilized as we are, they don’t have the respect for human life that we do.

Charlie has been collecting fuck yous to Christian for a very long time. They’re quite anti-clerical and have done anti-Muslim cartoons in the past. I bought that last issue (and I hadn’t bought Charlie in years but used to be a very devout reader of it in the past), and regarding the quality, it is one of their best issues in a long while. The cartoons posted by Vinyl are not the best of the issue, there’s a few really good ones inside, and they completely separate themselves from people like the director of “The innocence of Islam”, in fact they bash that trend as vigorously.

Maybe it is irresponsible of them, but they have always been irresponsible, WITH EVERYBODY. Asking them to stop now because some worked up zealots* might take it badly is freaking inane.
As it’s been noted they already were the target and victim of a fundamentalist attack, and yet certainly aren’t of the same race of people that use Muslim bashing to disguise Darkie bashing.

*if I may remind you, the whole “Innocence of Mohamed” outrage is one of the best examples of a completely manufactured and microwaved outrage. Catering to that crowd serves nothing. It doesn’t calm anything, it just makes it the next point from which to kneel even lower when another fake outrage comes out.

Well, It seems that the answer to Crazy Muslim opposition to free speech isn’t more free speech after all.

It’s a large, angry mob.

Good on them.

Oh, I thought I posted Ordinary Muslim Man here. Guess not.

You did.

Get back to us when they do a Mohammed version.

Many Muslims have been instrumental in preventing terrorism here in the US. People would say “Who was that mosqued man, I wanted to thank him!”

Which post? (Other than the one you quoted of course). I could have sworn I posted it earlier, but searching for my username I can’t find it in any of my prior posts.

It’s not that we are “giving” them anything. They are deliberately choosing to take offense as an excuse for actions they plan on taking anyways. The attack on the US Consulate in Benghazi was a planned, co-ordinated, complex attack involving multiple elements. It was never something that was just whipped up in a moment of frenzy. They used surveillance, pre-planned points of attack, a multiple pronged attack and a secondary attack on a fallback location.

The point being, they would’ve found any reason to use as cover. The youtube video had been out since JULY. They could’ve pointed to a picture of kittens on the internet as their reason for attack the consulate. It’s as likely as anything else.

You’re never, ever, going to be able to stop people from using excuses to cover their acts. And they’re not going to admit their real reason for attacking the consulate, which is that it was a intra-militia local political power play that went out of control.

The goal was to do some damage and show everyone that they were the local bad-asses willing to attack the USA and therefore had to be listened to. When they realized what they’d actually done, they disavowed any knowledge of the attack they’d just perpetrated (how insane is that), but by that point, other local political elements were using the attack, and the death of the very popular Ambassador, against them.

The youtube video had diddly-squat to do with it. Just so, if some militia or politician dials 1-800-rent-a-mob and uses these cartoons as a reason to make a speech and remind everyone of how important he is and how he and Allah are like totally the BFFs to end all BFFs, then that’s NOT the fault of the cartoons. That’s the fault of the local douchebag who is using them as an excuse for some action he has planned anyways.

And I forgot to add the following:

Finally, I think the French gov’t actions, by closing down Embassies, are a bit more sophisticated and multi-level. On the one hand, they are acting to protect their peeps, and that’s a good thing. They are also effectively offering a snub to the local governments, in effect saying:

“Clearly you can’t protect our missions or uphold your responsibilities to the Diplomatic staffs in your country. That implies that perhaps we shouldn’t be dealing with you so much, but with whoever it is that has the authority to command mobs to appear. Do you happen to have their phone number, cause we’re going to start taking their meetings instead of yours if you can’t get your shit under control.”

That’s probably not verbatim, but it’s not a missed thing that they closed Embassies in twenty different countries all over the ME. That’s not a message to the mobs, it’s a message to the gov’ts.

A newspaper in Cairo is fighting fire with fire – or in this case cartoons with cartoons. Wonderful reaction on the part of Al Watan.

Yawn. I really wouldn’t care. I’m American.

And I certainly would not be to incited to violence.

Call me what you will.
