That’s not at all true. We don’t know how the exact nature of wizard government, but there’s clearly some degree of popular consent necessary for the office of Minister of Magic. In book 4, Sirius tells Harry of how Barty Crouch Sr. was derailed from his track to being Minister of Magic because his popularity took a hit after his son was convicted as a Death Eater, and in book 6, Cornelius Fudge says that he was “sacked” as Minister of Magic because of his blunders in books 4-5.
Wizard society has rule of law. They have Aurors, they have a court system within the ministry, they have prisons. They were afraid of Voldemort because he was singularly talented and ruthless. Ordinary wizard criminals, even Death Eaters, could be stopped by Wizard law apparatus. Only the supremely talented, like Voldemort (and, I suppose, Grindelwald) are capable of putting themselves beyond the legal system and therefore inspiring such fear.
This is a group of people that don’t know how planes work. Technology that’s been around for decades baffles them. A group of people that are so stupid they think the most important use of a time machine is to take extra classes.
The HP world doesn’t make sense. It’s pretty clear that in world wizards are unaware of guns even if it doesn’t make any sense.
Wizards get physically hurt all the time. No reason to think bullets wouldn’t hurt them. Yeah, Seal Team 6 would have killed every death eater easily.
I believe Rowling HAS said that she made a deliberate parallel to Nazi Germany.
Actually, if you go back and read the books, you’ll see that the Time Turner use is extremely restricted. Hermione’s use was a rare exception. Mainly because of the disasterous concequences of messing with time.
There’s clearly a greater degree of bleed than that. Sirius Black is from a pureblood family, but he was a motorcycle buff, and clearly better informed about the subject than the befuddled Arthur Weasley. I think the simple answer is that wizards find magic to be a more useful tool than muggle technology, but the resources for acquiring muggle knowledge are there for wizards who are genuinely interested.
Ok, how fucking stupid is that? Oh, here’s this extremely dangerous thing that could really mess things up if we’re not careful. Lets give it to a child so she can read more.
Plus, disastrous consequences? You mean like the dark lord murdering hundreds of wizards?
