Even that’s not a problem… When this inevitably occurs, will people want a complex explanation that involves market conditions, the rise of natural gas, and the competitiveness of coal vis a vis other energy sources?

They want to be told a simple tale. “IT’S ALL OBAMA’S FAULT!” That’s what they will be told, and that’s what they will believe.
Well technically they would be at least slightly correct. Under Obama, domestic oil and gas production have seen incredible growth, along with Solar and Wind, and they’re all killing Coal.
When was the last time you heard anyone say “Well, I’m stupid and fucked up big time”?
Sometimes, an educated person in a leadership position (CEO, et. al.) will use such an expression to describe a financial loss; you never hear an ignorant person who just screwed up their future use it.
I know a person who is actually proud of his lack of education.

Learning this, our boy genius had ALL of his teeth extracted on the assumption that, since the Govt would pay to remove all of his teeth, they would certainly pay for the (then required) dentures.
When the dentist, who by then had suspected that although he was obviously planning on getting dentures, he was not planning to actually PAY for them.
When the dentist started to take impressions, he told bright boy “now, Mr. Genius, this is going to cost $1200”.
Mr. Genius loudly told the dentist that HE knew the rules, and the dentures would be free or he wouldn’t get them, because HE wasn’t going to pay for them.
Last I heard, he was planning to make the free temporary dentures last forever.
He may not always be right, but he is NEVER wrong!
