I believe there was once the plan to include a vial of some isotope with a known half-life.
Logic being, if found, the amount which decayed would let “them” deduct how long the spacecraft had been drifting amongst the stars.
I see that as a good thing. Panspermia and all.
Better yet, send out tardigrade farms!
