[Found it!](http://www.hvwc.net/movies/milkywayvw.mov) Now I have to find something that can play it (stupid Windows Media player grabbed it and then said it couldn’t download a suitable decompressor :rolleyes: ). ---

Yeah, but I wanted to avoid having to perform the 5+ meg download (56K modem and in Ireland we have to pay internet call charges). I did anyway in the end. It’s OK, but I think has lost some of its impact through compression. I think if I’d have seen it on TV I would have freaked with joy, though. ---

Nerd, THinksnow: I think the commercial, however, is supposed to be a sort of teaser, because, the car isn’t out yet, I think. I got from it that this guy has a pretty boring life and nothing changes and then he sees the VW convertible and everything has changed. But we can’t see it…yet. And yes you can see the top of the convertible at the end of the commercial. I lu-u-u-u-rve it. ---

The Nazi-car ads are okay, I guess. Still bristling over the Nick Drake co-optation, but hey, at least it exposed more people to his music. The slow, meditative pace of those ads are an interesting change form the frenetically paced jump-cut ads of the 90s. Those MTV-style ads were a perect example of adept target-marketing-- the dot-com yuppies of the Clinton-era economic boom. These days, the most successful ads seem to have a pensive, slightly depressed air to them which complements current economic and war anxieties very well. Kudos to the Nazi-car marketing execs for really putting their finger on the current zeitgeist. ---

I love the _Mr. Blue Sky_ ad. I first saw it in the movie theater as a preview for _The Ring_. I was very excited about going to see this movie about a guy with a boring life, but then he sees this girl from outside his office window…and then I learned it’s for a car. Bummer, really. I listen to _Mr. Blue Sky_ at least three times every day now. ---
