This documentary, based on the 100+ hours of footage by the late bear enthusiast Timothy Treadwell, is being released soon. Will it air on Discovery Channel, as I heard, or be released in theaters? When, if you know? ---

I am so glad someone mentioned this- I thought it sounded fascinating even before I realized Herzog was the director. It should be on Discovery sometime after December, I believe. For those who don’t know, it’s a doc about a guy named Timothy Treadwell who lived “among” grizzlies in a national park for about twelve years and toured the country educating poeple about them, explaining how he’d earned their trust and could touch some of them Jane Goodall style, advocating conservationism, etc. Then he and his girlfriend were killed by grizzlies in 2003. Weird stuff. ---

It opens August 19th at the Charle’s Theater in Baltimore. I’m hoping for a hybrid “March of the Penguins” - “Grizzly Man” sequel. I’m imagining a grizzly bear trying to live in harmony with penguins at the South Pole, but the damn things are just so slow and tasty. . .
