A father is suing his son’s minor hockey association because it failed to award him the MVP trophy - even though he led the league in scoring.

> [@](#):
>
> “How do you justify that?” Croteau _(the father)_ said. “It’s quite obvious he’s the most valuable forward in the league.”

Now the kid doesn’t want to play hockey anymore because he was “humiliated” at the awards banquet by not winning - even after spending $50 on a new shirt and tie.

Quoth the father:

> [@](#):
>
> It’s not the trophy, it’s that he should have been honoured. I taught him since he learned to skate at three years old that hard work brings rewards. But that didn’t happen.

Well, it sure sounds like the trophy to me. You taught him that hard work pays off? Aside from the fact that the father of the boy who did win surely taught the same lesson, maybe you should also teach dealing with disappointment gracefully. Use it as motivation. Accept and move on - awards and trophies don’t discount any good work you have done.

> [@](#):
>
> Croteau also wants Steven to be guaranteed a spot on the New Brunswick Canada Winter Games roster.

What? Should he not have to earn a spot through hard work? Jackass.

This story sickens me in so many ways. Fuck Almighty! Let the kid fend for himself a little. No wonder he went home and pouted after the banquet. And how is $300,000 going to help?

Parents go to far. I’ll be a father in March. Please - if I EVER do something as stupid as this for my children, shoot me.

Gun’s cocked and ready, my friend.

This story is absolutely ridiculous. Who here hasn’t gotten some sort of award or recognition they feel they deserved? Who sued because they werelet down? Life’s full of dissappointments, get used to it. I’m sorry, but aside from child molestation, rape, or witnessing your family/friends murdered before your eyes, I can’t think of anything that would cause $300,000 in “psychological damage” to a sixteen year old boy.
So, he busted his ass and didn’t get MVP. Boo fuckin’ hoo. There are other aspects that points that go into an MVP nomination, no? You know, like “Good Sportsmanship,” something I’m sure the FATHER could stand to learn a little about.

I think the father is teaching the son a very valuable lesson: if you whine enough and make a putz out of yourself, you might get lots of money. I’m sure he’ll be making spurious compensation claims as soon as he reaches the age of majority.

The best or most talented player is not always the most valuable player. This kid could indeed be the best player. But he could be a bad teammate, a selfish player who belittles his fellow players, etc…

I’d be interested to see what the record of his team was and what his teammates thought of him.

Anyhoo, I’m sure the MVP award will be _just_ as sweet when he recieves it after it’s awarded to him by a court.

See - if I was the boy who won the MVP award, I’d just give it to the whiny fuck. It’s not worth it. He didn’t have any control over the voting and now he will be dragged into some messy court crap that he doesn’t deserve.

If Baby Boy really thought he’d have a future in hockey before - he certainly won’t anymore. No scout or team is gonna touch him with a 50 ft hockey stick.

Ungh. This still bothers me. I wonder who is really leading this lawsuit. The kid? Or the father who is bringing his son along for the ride.

Of course it’s the fucktard dad. Any sane father who’s kid suggested _suing_ would sit the kid down and teach him how things work in life. That’s assuming it was the kid’s idea, which I doubt, and never would have happened with proper parenting in the first place.

I don’t know about you, but if I had come home whining that I hadn’t won an MVP Award and saying it was unfair because I’d led the league in a statistical category and I want an award wahhhhh woe is me, my father would have kicked me in the ass.

And if MY kid comes home whining “wahhh, I didn’t win the MVP award, wahhh” it’s a kick in the ass for her/him, too.

More fathers need to give their kids a good swift kick in the ass at times like these.

Actually, I’ll tell you why Crybaby McFucktard didn’t win the MVP; he doesn’t play defense. If he’s so stupid and selfish as to do this, I’ll bet dollars to dimes he doesn’t bother to hustle back and play team defense. And that would make him less valuable than some kid who can score AND play D.

It’s not the other kid’s to give away. He can give the trophy away but he’s still the MVP. No way should anyone back down on this. If kids aren’t learning something about hard work and fair play there’s no damned point.

I disagree. My first response would be sympathy and comiseration. I’d want my son to know that he’s a good kid, that he worked hard, and that these things happen. I’d want him to take the time to learn what it was that pushed the other kid into the MVP slot, and what he could do in the future to emulate that.

And if he _keeps_ whining, _then_ he gets the kick in the ass.

One of the FIRST lessons any kid should learn is that life isn’t fair. I don’t know why he lost but total points are not the only criteria for an MVP award. The other kid probably worked his ass off defensively instead of just suckholing around the net all the time. Or maybe the other kid was more of a team leader, who knows. Is it just possible that no one could stand the whiney little shit and so they didn’t vote for him? Hey, that’s part of life too, kid. How you treat people MATTERS. Life IS a popularity contest. Stats don’t matter if you’re a prick.
