Well a (presumed) zombie runs out of the crowd and attacks the woman being escorted onto the helo. That’s when the soldiers start firing wildly into the crowd. The opening credits sequence is masterfully done. The only thing I don’t like about the remake is the sequence with the dog running supplies and the dumb girl going after her. Even the director and the screenwriter seemed to think it was dumb. Originally there was to be a sequence with zombie dogs as well that cut from the script. ---

On a similar topic, for those who wondered “Why didn’t he just shoot all the zombies if he had so many guns?”, the DVD special feature mentioned above has Andy doing a rough estimate of the math and coming to the conclusion that it just isn’t feasible. And I third the comment about the perfect opening sequence with Johnny Cash. ---

The scene where the guy on the roof: writes the “message” which turns out to be just smeared blood made my flesh literally crawl. The rest of it could have sucked, and I still would have like the movie for that. ---

It followed the rules set up in the first movies about zombies going through a routine - which is why so many spent the day wandering through the mall. He was just doing what he had been doing. ---

It isn’t utter crap but lord it isn’t a great movie either. I enjoyed the first fifteen minutes, a good set up and interesting visuals. however when they changed the zombification to an infection only spread through bites they blew the entire opening. How in hell can this spread over night, around the globe? They created the one dimensional “villian type” They have characters switch gears for no reason (Such as the renta cop). They have so many throwaway characters that it is impossible to care about any of them. I mean the only reason most people cared about the cop was because of the actor playing him and not his actual performance (which was not bad with what little he was given to do). The sped up zombies and paper thin characterizations cater to the teen audience who seem to have been bested by even gnats when it comes to length of time they can concentrate on one thing. ---
