To get all philosophical, everyone presents a slightly different character in different situations. My character here, for example, is not the same as my character on Facebook. For example, here I’m probably seen as humorless, while there I’m always cracking jokes. Here I mostly speak my mind, there I worry about people’s feelings. Here making friends and deepening friendships is something that happens by accident, while it’s the primary purpose of talking on Facebook. There I talk about my problems. Here I avoid it because I know it will only make them worse. Plus I can’t help but be branded by my past, when I was going through turmoil, and how I reacted. I can’t help it that people here have a completely different idea of who I am than do people in real life. As I often say, in real life, I’ve met a handful of people who actually didn’t like me. Sure, some people are indifferent, but very little active hatred. And, note, all this happens without lying. Imagine how much further apart these characters would be for people who don’t mind being directly deceptive! ---
