California Bar results come out Friday. I’m freaking the hell out. The sedatives I’m taking are having miminal effect. Being in a courtroom everyday isn’t particularly helpful either, considering I’m constantly thinking “this may be my last week in here.” This is fucking torture. I hate everyone. Would you really get fired right away like that? Don’t they generally put you on light duties and give you a 2nd chance? The Feds gave us till 1 year after we were hired through the fellowship program to pass and swear in. Man, I haven’t even sworn in my California results yet…I’ve been so lazy about it. I haven’t heard of many people being fired after they failed the first time. Actually, in my personal experience I don’t know a single person who got fired because they failed the first time. In any case, best of luck! ETA: it could be worse…I mean, you could check the Dope the day before the exam like I did and see **Campion** ’s nice message of good luck in MPSIMS and then some asshole who posted “I hope every single person named in your OP fails the Bar because I hate lawyers and think they should all die!” That was a whole BUCKET of awesome, right there. ---

Considered I’m hired pending results in one of the most sought after civil-servant positions in my county, it’s highly unlikely they’ll give me a second chance. ☹ But hey, I was valedictorian! That’s gotta count for something right? RIGHT??? I think I need to pop another sedative. ---

Hang in there, **lezlers**. I remember the last week being torture, too, and then logging on the website Friday at 6, reading that I passed, screaming in joy, then having to log back in to _make sure_ I passed. I’m in a firm, so we got two chances; if you fail the first time, you get leave to study for the February exam. If you fail the second time, you get shown the door. It happens, but rarely. If you went to a good school and did well there, you’re ahead of the game. **anu-la1979** , as I recall the a-hole who crapped all over your congratulations thread later saw the error of his ways and sincerely repented. If you were smart and hard-working enough to be valedictorian, and you kept up with your bar review class (which I’m sure you did) then you’re gonna pass. ---

I never bothered checking the thread after that. It brought my opinion of the Dope to a low, though. I don’t put Esq after my name because I think it’s lame and pretentious. I do get a lot of letters addressed to me that way, though. My title with my employers is Attorney-Advisor, so that’s what’s on my business cards. ---

I was sworn in 20 years ago this week. You kids today and yer fancy internets… I had to wait for a letter! I know how you feel. The week before the results came out was worse for me than the week before the exam. Relax- you passed. I guess we have to teach you the secret handshake! ---

Old school rules say esquire is never self-applied, but always applied to others. So, when I send a letter to another lawyer, I title him esquire. But when signing my own letters or pleadings I’m just me. Whatever happens take Friday off, you’ve earned it. I remember my office called looking for me and I was already shitfaced and up to my elbows in oysters at a raw bar down the street.
