Waiting in line at Disney World

Boy howdy, did I ever major in the wrong subject.

Since I’m sure you’ve heard every possible joke about it, what are your favorite zingers on your choice of major?

I think you covered it - most people say they would have loved to have thought of it.

Thought of this thread yesterday as Ms. Cups and I were in Epcot and actually rode this ride.

So, like I guessed, the first third or so of it is outside, whereas the rest of it is indoors. The indoor part is still a little stuffy, but it’s not like you’re waiting for 4 hours in the sun the entire time.

The line was only 45 min. when we rode so we honestly spend maybe 10 of it outside, the rest was inside.

Would I wait 3 hours for it? Hell no. But it wasn’t too bad for the 45 min it was…

I was at Epcot too yesterday and also rode this. I was in the first wave when they opened that part of the World Showcase. The people in front of me in the pack, plus the slowness in shuffling through the queue while we assembled ourselves, meant that it was still a 20 minute wait. I’d say it was worth 20 minutes. Don’t think it would have been worth 45 because the ride seems so short. A similar complaint to the Dwarf Mine ride at the Magic Kingdom. Maybe they could paste the two rides together and have one amazing long ride

Oh that’s a funny coincidence.

Did you see me? I was the one wearing shorts.

I seem to recall that Doper len’s book recommends AGAINST going for the extra hours simply because everyone staying at the Disney resorts will be doing the same.

When we last went (2007, I think) we stayed on site and only took advantage of that one evening. The kids were too young to let wander on their own - and really too young to be up all that late.

Next time we go, it might be a different thing. No kids. We might stay on site just because it minimizes the parking hassles and yeah, if we want to drink, it’d be nice to have transportation sorted out.

Back in 2003, when the kids were 9 and 6, we went and stayed offsite at a rental house because we were meeting up with a bunch of out-of-town friends. We had that house 9 days. We only went to the park 5 days - we alternated park days and relaxing days. It was wonderful. The parks themselves were still that combination of tacky enjoyment and misery (July… and lines…) but we actually enjoyed the trip. The next time, it was more a matter of “gotta have fun NOW whether we like it or not”.

This reminds me: how much cheaper is park admission for Florida residents?

We actually own a condo down there (that the in-laws live in) and when we next go I’m trying to see if we can leverage that for the cheaper entry. Not sure what documentation we’d require - tax bills are sent to us at that address but our IDs are not.

As opposed to have Six flags and Universal Studio, who charge a LOT. That’s one reason why simple price comparisons are off.

Well, only at DL. At WDW, do that and head for what you want to ride, if you move rapidly, at a brisk walk, getting there 30 minutes before opening you can hit one attraction before there’s much line. Maybe another. Then, a couple late at nite.

True, especially at WDW. But at DL, it can help. The late hours can work, however.

In other words, according to Lens Unoffical guide, stay out of whatever WDW park has extra morning hours, hit a different one.

True, but the express passes at Universal are a lot more useful than the fastpasses at Disney. With Universal’s passes you can walk onto almost every ride with 10% of the wait of the normal line, whenever you want, as many times as you want. At WDW, if you make your initial FP+ reservations for the morning (when they’re least valuable), then pull new ones whenever possible, you’ll get 6, maybe 7 total FP rides over a long day, most of which will be for tier 2 or lower rides since the tier 1 reservations were all gone by lunchtime.

In a horrifying, sequential-threads kind of thing: I just glanced at my gmail folder where all SDMB stuff goes. And a few days ago, the two notifications right in a row are:

‘Alligator drags away 2-year-old boy in Florida’
and
‘Waiting in line at Disney World’

:eek::eek::eek:

Yeah, once you’re inside those ropy line-organizing things, there’s not a whole lot you can do when the gators come for you, is there?

(yeah, I’m going straight to hell).
