“The First Cut is the Deepest” may be the best singing I’ve ever heard on a record. And when I saw him sing it live at MSG as part of an accoustic set in the early 90s–just amazing. “People Get Ready” was awesome too. ---

I like some of Rod (could do w/o Hot Legs for sure). I really love his acoustic version of (have forgotten the song title, sorry) “If I listened long enough to you…I’d find a way to believe that it’s all true…” ---

I have to say my favorite Rod Stewart song is **Italian Girls** from **Never a Dull Moment**. I still can never decide which album is better, this or **Every Picture Tells a Story**. Both are close to perfect. ---

I’ve always thought that “Stay With Me” was a sublime garage-band song. The studio recording seems outwardly sloppy, but the precision of the musicianiship is remarkable. It simply sounds great. I’ve always harbored the notion that the reason the Stones hired Wood was because “Stay With Me” is a song they wish they had recorded. And, I really don’t mind disagreement, it’s just a thought I like.
