I still think it’s the local gov’ts caving in that’s the problem. If they just stayed pat, according to the strictest definition of ED, then Wal-Mart can holler all they want. It won’t do any good.
Not sure “caving” is the word I would choose, Ivylass.
I think I prefer “gleefully chasing after lotsa hot graft.”
Or, if that is not appropriate, perhaps “valuing corporate income and tax revenue over the rights and interests of legitimate private citizens.” I think we could make that one stick.
As far as I’m concerned, it’s grounds for revolution. Eminent domain should be used only for schools, hospitals, and roads, and even then only if it can be shown that there is no reasonable alternative.
I encourage all Dopers to follow the lead of The Peyote Coyote and boycott the motherfuckers at WallyWorld.

Isn’t that a bit drastic… boycotting the motherfuckers at Wal-mart? Wow! What’s next? Spearing the motherfuckers with your nail files? A revolution doesn’t need sign-toting prissy butts. A revolution needs men.
Even if moderm day brave females are the men.
I see the link has moved. If you look at the upper left corner of the linked site you’ll see where the info has been moved to.
The link in the OP is changed every weekday - it gives the current day’s show notes. Fortunately, Boortz re-links past days. The link to the article will stay as: http://www.boortz.com/aug21-03.htm.
Further down that page are details of a fund to help fight the abuse.
I see our Nissan plant is Number Six on the list of the Top Ten abuses.
Y’all might like to know that the Archies (a couple who held out and went to court) prevailed and the plant did NOT take their land.
Of course, the rest of the neighbors (including a church and graveyard) have all been relocated, so the Archies now have a MegaWhopperAutoPlant with associated industrial spinoffs for neighbors.
Nice.
NinetyWt, that’s how it’s always been. It’s comfortable that way. Please, don’t make me give up my law school notions about the old Addams Family style mansion next to the chemical plant.
“They’ve offered four million.”
Not enough! Paint the house purple and red!
And, scene.
A sickening corollary to the story: a real estate investor went about buying up a bunch of the land when the first rumors went out. He didn’t pay much for it, it being a bunch of soybean fields and floodplain out in the county.
When the state came around trying to buy land, this guy set an exorbitant price for his. Then had the gall to complain when they offered less.
What they offered him would have given him a tremendous profit. Yet the guy was so greedy he cried and complained about it.
Sometimes I don’t like people very much.
