I never tried putting a harness on my cat, but here’s something weird: I once put a little sweatshirt on her, and she walked backwards. Absolutely couldn’t (or wouldn’t) walk forwards until I took it off of her. I concluded from that experience that cats couldn’t wear any of the things that dogs and other animals might wear, but now after reading all these tales of successful cat harnessing, I’m thinking maybe it was just my cat that had a problem. Live and learn.
Speaking of cats walking backwards, have you ever noticed that when you pick a cat’s front legs up and walk them around on their back legs, they walk better backwards than they do forwards in that position? Freakshow!
One of the absolutely funniest things I ever saw about cats was an article called “Costumes for your cat”. My favorite was “The Backward-Walking Elephant”. Just slip a stocking over your cat’s head.
I laughd my head off, then showed it to Pepper Mil. She laughed hysterically, then said “Don’t ever do that to our cats!” Then she said “But if you do, let me know. I want to watch.”
My kitten let me put a pair of wings on her for Halloween last year. She only sat still and wore them long enough for me to take a picture and then she attacked the wings. She’s black and white and with the little white wings, she looked sooooo cute.
I wanted to just carry the kitten around and have people tell me how cute she was but I figured why risk having her jump out of my arms and run away. Judging from the way she attacked the wings as soon as the picture was taken, I can guess she would hate a harness. That and the fact that she hates, hates, hates being outside.
