Well, there I am in the school computer lab doing some research on a company and decide to go on the wall street journals website, [interactive.wsj.com](http://interactive.wsj.com), except I accidently type .org instead of .com. Well, little did I know that that little mistake would bring me to a website featuring euro tean sluts getting gangbanged or something. Then of course it gives me the endless string of popups while I am trying to hide the screen so no one sees it, but of course half of the people see it and now I am the pervert looking at porn in the business school. Damn, I’m all for an unregulated internet, but impersonating respectful sites is just plain wrong.

Hmmm, I only get the paper copy of the WSJ…what section is that Euro Teen Sluts article in? International?

Just kidding. A lot of pissant porn sites do that. It’s disgusting. I had heard that there was a site that took a common mispelling of Disneyland and used it as the link to their porn gallery. I think it has been shut down, rightly so.

Raise your hand if you immediately went to visit the Euro Teen Sluts. What do you mean your hand is otherwise occupied?

Of course, we all know what happens when you use the wrong suffix when trying to get to the whitehouse homepage.
Why are you looking at me like that? I meant to type .gov, I SWEAR!

What’s the term for this? When somebody steals an URL, it’s called pagenapping. But when somebody licenses a close URL, it’s called . . . ?

I’ve had that happen with Filepile. I did a .com or .org and got the -wrong- site. It sucks.

Texas Spur: I’ll give you a worse one to make you feel better. A couple of years ago, when I was a newbie to the Net, a friend sent me a .exe file at work. Not knowing anything about .exe files, I opened it. I got a nice animation on screen of puppys and flowers (or something) and didn’t think anything about it.

It was friday afternoon and I went to shut down on because I was leaving work at noon. At shutdown, my desktop screen was PORN. Hairy legged, hairy, hairy, gynecological porn.

I freaked. I had no idea how to change my desktop screen and my computer faces a common area. I turned my monitor around to face the wall, tried what I knew, but nothing worked. I did a cold shutdown and took off to find a computer literate friend, who could tell me what to do after hours.

I came in about 7:00 that night and my computer was gone. Completely gone. Somebody who was working late told me that a new job applicant had been put at my desk to do the written portion of the interview. When they booted up the computer . . PORN. Tech support had taken my computer.

To make a long story short (too late), I spent the entire weekend in terror. Porn on our network is an immediate firing offense. I called my boss at home, but because of union rules, he couldn’t talk to me about it without a supervisor/union rep.

Tech support was able to ascertain that I had been taken advantage of/stupid, and my friend was upfront about saying he had been stupid in sending it to me.

But EVERYONE in the office knew that I had had porn on the screen. Thankfully, my boss called a staff meeting to explain that I had not been surfing porn and was in no way responsible. All of our staff had no idea what a .exe was.

P.S. the applicant that saw the porn got hired.

P.P.S. Two months later someone in another divison, who had heard the story, sent me an audio file that said, “Hey, I’m looking at porn over here!” I didn’t open it but forwarded it to my boss with a note saying, “I don’t know what this is and I didn’t request it.” Before my boss could read the message, the jerk came into my office and told me what he had sent. He thought it was funny. I punched him. He complained to my boss. My boss said, “If I write Whistlepig up, you’re fired.” End of story.

Last year in one of my JavaScript classes, we had a porn incident.
The exersize was auto-redirects. Someone mis-typed the redirect URL, which is supposed to be [scsite.com](http://scsite.com). 15 seconds later, the redirect activated.(if you _really_ want to know what site popped up, leave out the second s.

The screen went full-screen with porn. The back button was disabled, and pop-ups kept appearing. This is in the middle of a crowded computer lab. It took about 2 minutes to bring the situation under control.

The kicker is, [scsite.com](http://scsite.com) is a website for an educational publishing company(they published our JavaScript books). The lengths some people go to promote porn…

Likewise, be careful looking up Dick’s Sporting Goods.
