Yeah, yeah, I’ll admit that many folks have legitimate medical conditions that warrant the use of motorized transportation. But I tend to think the gripe was steered towards the folks who ride all over the store, picking up “SOOPER” buttered microwave popcorn, with gallons of CHOCO-CREAM-FUDGE-ice cream, a dozen bags of chips, Kit-kats, and whatever. I’ve seen 'em, you’ve seen 'em. I’d like to tell them, “hey folks, that 2-liter of Diet 7-UP you’re carrying isn’t going to help your “condition”.”

So I shouldn’t pick up the stuff that my family likes, even though I don’t eat it myself? Even when I’m going right past it? When we get to the grocery store, we split up. I head for the deli (since I’ll just be sitting in the scooter anyway), my husband goes to pick up the pet supplies, and my daughter picks out the fresh fruits and veggies.

Personally, I don’t really care what you think. I’d just like for you to START thinking, instead of making assumptions.

now we’re going to regulate what you’re shopping for?

customer - I need a chair please.

loser - I need a pee sample, blood draw, and of course a copy of your shopping list.

live and let live. The only un-excusable is when parents let their kids play with them as needy folks stroll by.

Anyway, you shouldn’t be shopping at that fucking place. The decline of civilization.

example - you shop at a neighborhood store everyday. You encounter the same folks, know the owner, etc, etc, etc…your behavior is good, you’re courteous, etc…there is accountability, because of the social pressures of interacting with the same folks everyday.

You go to a big box shop, license to be an asshole. WHy? WHat do I care, not like I’ll likely see these shits again. What do I care.

too early, what the fuck am I doing trying to sound intelligent.

Ponch,

There are several really good points you can criticize fairly and evenly. This unfortunately is not one of them.

Respectfully,
Anthracite

Anthracite, not criticizing, just applying his logic and directing it towards him…that is all…

sorry I didn’t put a sarcastic, or a see how it feels when someone does it to you icon.

I’ve read that he is also a waiter, and obviously there is a lot more to him than working at wal-mart, hell, if that’s what he wants to do, great.

But me looking at him in his wal-mat smock and calling him stupid and un-motivated, whithout talking to him, is no diferent than him looking at an overweight person in a cart and calling him or her a lazy fat ass.

geralizations abound.

#1) I haven’t “seen 'em” since my life is pretty fulfilling. Unlike, say, yours, since you seem to have little else to do with your time than skulk around supermarkets inspecting the food baskets on motorized carts for inappropriate food.

#2) I’d like to tell YOU something: “Hey, bitch, what the hell does it matter to you what other people eat? Why don’t you try minding your own fucking business?”

#3)I’m quoting FreakFreely verbatim, since he said this so perfectly:
“I’ll say this slowly so you can understand, but I don’t have much hope that it’ll help, since you didn’t listen to anyone else.

won’t repeat the many excellent comments by Tech chick, Fenris, Freaky Freely et al;
the basic tenent is that if you’re busy judging other people based on a ten second encounter, you’re probably got too much time on your hands. It’s just that kind of judgemental attitude that makes people NOT use them when they need them.

When my 16 year old son got out of the hospital (3 days in ICU, 4 days total, from a combination of strep and mono), was so weak that he couldn’t stand for more than 3 or 4 minutes at a time, didn’t want to use the motorized carts for fear judgemental folks like the one who started this thread would glare at him (and YES, some did, he was a 6 foot tall spikey haired picture of health looking kid who’d nearly died 4 days before). So he tried to go it without, and nearly passed out, had to sit on the floor for several minutes etc. Didn’t have time that day to thank you for your condescending and judgmental attitude, so let me do so now.

As others have said, may you NEVER have to be in the circumstances that you need assistance and not “appear” to need it.

Gr8Kat and Zette, I knew you’d have to respond to this thread. Lynn Bodoni, sorry you’ve been dealt that hand. Life goes on. I’ve been getting sicker for a year and a half now. The last two months have been Hell. You can’t tell how sick I’ve gotten by outward appearance.

Zette, still love your humor, I just don’t see it posted much anymore, but I haven’t really been watching the board much for a few months.

I have to add “Fuck off you ignorant Bastard!” for the original poster.
To part on a happier note:

“All in the golden afternoon
Full leisurely we glide;
For both our oars, with little skill,
By little arms are plied
While little hands make vain pretence
Our wanderings to guide.”

When I was young I wrecked both my knees (long explanation - no need to go into it here). It’s gotten better over the years and now only usually hurts when it rains.

However, when I was a teenager I was in severe pain most of the time. The doctor wanted me to use a wheelchair full time, but I refused (I was thirteen - pain was worlds better than “embarassment”). My Mom and I went into a grocery store and I was in such pain that my Mom insisted I use a wheelchair. Well, people gave us such shit over why she would let her young healthy daughter play in a wheelchair that was supposed to be reserved for people who needed them, that I never used a wheelchair again, no matter how much it hurt no to. No matter how she tried to explain, people would just close their ears and insist that no child had a need for a wheelchair. After that episode, if I was in pain, I just didn’t leave the house.

So, Quisling, better get all your facts straight before you judge people. To quote FreakFreely and Fenris, in case you didn’t get it the first two times

Goodness Gracious! I had to use a wheelchair in a public place a couple of weeks ago. It never would have occurred to me that people were passing judgment on me.

I had a sprained foot, and I was supposed to stay off of it completely. There was no outward sign that I was injured–no cast or anything. I was traveling by plane, and used one of the airport wheelchairs to get around between flights. It really wasn’t feasible for me to “walk” all that way on my crutches. The airport personnel and the other passengers couldn’t have been nicer to me.

I hate to think that some ignorant jackass was mad at me for using the wheelchair.

Quisling, I needn’t repeat what others have said better, but you really could have chosen a better name.

Quisling isn’t just a word for traitor. And ‘traitor’ isn’t just another word for ‘revolutionary’.

A traitor is someone who betrays. Most often, they do it by breaking confidences and trusts. Specifically, the original Quisling was a man who allied himself with Hitler and made Norway an extension of Nazi Germany. He might not have hated Jews (and queers, and gypsies, and all others tortured and killed under the Nazi regime), he might have just been in it for power, to rule, but the fact remains that he willingly supported the rule of a madman, evil by most people’s definitions, and who turned his nation over to that madman, and carried out his orders. Quisling was not a good man. A traitor is not a good man.

You might justify it by thinking that ‘a trator is merely a government’s name for a revolutionary’, but it’s not. It’s a label for a person that is willing to turn his neighbor over to the SS, for a man can sell his friends to a dictator, for the kind of person that kills an unsuspecting friend from behind.

Don’t tell any Jewish, Norweigan holocaust survivor’s that you like the name Quisling, if you value your health, or you might end up using one of those wheelchairs.
