He will always be a footnote for the man running as the candidate from one of the two parties who lost the Presidential bid by the most states\*. Funny thing is, I don’t remember him doing anything bad, just boring. What Jokes? ^ Taft took two and there were only 48 states at the time. ---

He was the first presidential candidate I voted for. Choosing a female running mate was a much more courageous thing to do in 1984 than it is in the 21st Century. ---

A good man and the creator (along with Carter) of the modern vice presidency. Prior to that, the veep’s job was to go to funerals and inquire about the president’s health. He did not deserve to lose so badly, particularly to a dunce like Reagan. He was the first to put a woman on the ticket, at the time known as “Fritz and Tits”. What a shame that two fine Minnesotans, Humphrey and Mondale, never served in the White House. ---

I believe this makes 1984 the most recent Presidential election from which both candidates (indeed, all the candidates, including VP picks) are dead. ---

It was very poignant to read that he knew his death was imminent and so was calling people to say farewell. Among those he spoke to were President Carter, President Biden, and Vice President Harris. ---

Yeah, he was a good egg. He went along with being offered up as the party’s sacrificial lamb to Bonzo, not an easy thing to do.
