You are expecting a rational, fact-based summary of events from Encylopedia Dramatica?

My friend, this be the internet and here there be dragons.
Sara is a bit of a meme there, as they seemed to be the first to try to estimate proportions based on what she was actually throwing in (the one fact that seemed to come out of the whole exploration is that most people can’t just ‘eyeball’ a measure- Sara or otherwise) and to speculate wildly what that amount of mayo might do to a person.

</div>

Did I miss her “eyeball measuring?” It seemed like she was measuring to me - and understood that 16oz was a pint of mayonnaise. Except for the 1 cup = 2 cup part where she seemed to not get that her measuring cup was a 2-cupper, and 1 cup doesn’t mean to fill the measuring instrument to the top. At first I thought she was just giving instructions for the regular recipe and maybe she was doubling it for herself while she was making it, but then she would have included 2 cans of condensed milk, right?

Maybe I got that wrong, but I can’t watch it again.

I eyeball stuff all the time, but that’s after years of measuring first, and knowing how much of a palm-full makes a teaspoon or tablespoon, and now that I’m cooking so much more often, it’s just more stuff to clean! Though I wouldn’t really try to eyeball a cup or more.

I’m going to get in trouble for this, but . . .

on a board where a large number of people are overweight, I’m always surprised as the “OMG that makes me so nauseous! That’s the amount of food that I would eat in a week” and so on reactions that any type of unhealthy dish gets. I don’t really think that dish is out of proportion for what the average american eats. I mean, a Chipotle burrito is like 2,000 cals, right? And many, many asian dishes have some combination of vinegar and sugar. It’s not that unusual of a combination.

Does watching that video really make you want to throw up? I can’t help but believe that all of this is a bit of drama. This isn’t a board dedicated to long distance running or modeling or something, I think most of us eat like average Americans, and that macaroni salad, eaten by a family of four over 3-4 days, is something most Americans would eat. I know that a lot of people say things like, “well, I would replace the macaroni with some spaghetti squash, add one teaspoon of mayonnaise (homemade) and replace the condensed sweetend milk with one tablespoon of my Chinese-inspired honey+soy sauce+ (insert 3 veggies and four spices here),” but I’m a little skeptical.

I would try a bite of it.

Gestalt, I can pretty much guarantee that I have eaten crap worst for me than that salad. I have eaten some desserts that I am almost certain must have been made with purely butter and sugar and nothing else.

This video is funny because most folks can whip up a quick macaroni salad, and we know that our recipe is nothing like that craziness she is whipping up. Just like we might make fun of someone who instead of eating a snicker, smooshes a twixt between two snickers and calls that a candy bar.

Not that I wouldn’t try a bite of that. Or a bite of that macaroni salad.

The thought of combining mayonnaise, white vinegar, sugar, sweetened condensed milk, and raw onions in any quantity makes me ill, so yeah. Even one teaspoon of that concoction sounds like something one would only eat on a dare.

Really? In any quantity? With any other combination of ingredients? Like, you wouldn’t eat a salad made with some sort of dressing that involved those ingredients?

It makes you ill? Huh.

Before we even get to the food, watching someone that morbidly obese puts me the neighborhood of nausea. The food is the five inch thick icing on that cake.

Seriously, those videos make me feel like the killer in Seven;

He was not pleased, and I couldn’t stop laughing.

Absolutely revolting. And not because it’s rich or because she’s heavy. The thought of all that sweetened condensed milk being used in macaroni turns my stomach.

Because I hate macaroni salad in general. So even if it wasn’t so gross, I probably wouldn’t like it, or have anything to compare it to.

Besides, I dare you first. 😛

Whatevs. Lots of baked goods have tons of sweetened condensed milk too. And lots of other fatty things.

I guess I’m the only one here not eating broiled veggies with a side of lemon water all day.

Or who doesn’t get physically ill at the thought of somewhat unusual food combinations. How do y’all survive in a cafeteria or fast food environment then? It’s all fatty, sugary fried stuff. Do you carry around pepto-bismol for every unappetizing work lunch hour?

So just shut up and make it already. Jeeze.

And yes, it looks gross to me. Excuse me for offending delicate sensibilities. And no, I don’t gag in public, or act rude when people eat things like that. But I do find them disgusting. And like I said, I hate macaroni salad, and this looks even more disgusting. (Although I do like pasta salad with a vinegrette dressing.)

I don’t think it’s something I’d want to eat, either, but I’m not going to be all, “OMG, fat cals! Let me get my barf bag!”

I just see this reaction a lot on the Dope, and it surprises me and it just seems to me to ring a bit hollow.

Yes. Is this really so hard to believe? I meant exactly what I said. I think mayonnaise is gross by itself, and imagining what that combination of flavors and textures is exponentially gross.

No, it’s not hard to believe that you find it gross. I guess I’m not expressing myself so well . . . I think I’m more surprised by the whole, “it makes me nauseous/physically ill/other physical ailment aspect of it.” Like, I’m not a fan of squash, or mayo for that matter.

However, watching someone eat squash, or squash slathered with mayo, doesn’t make me ill. And I wonder, if unappetizing food combos do make you feel ill, how you function in the real world without always feeling sick. There is so much unappetizing food out there . . .

I think it’s called hyperbole.

Look, I LOVE sweet condensed milk. I dip strawberries in it. It tastes lovely. I don’t want any in my macaroni salad though. The thought grosses me out. But I’m not going to make gagging noises if I see it at a buffet.
