Hostess used to be great. Now, they are shit. Every single one of their cupcakes that I’ve had since the new company started manufacturing them is shit. Every fucking one of them has been dry as a bone. Fuck you, new Hostess! You Suck. Carry on. ---

IMHO, Hostess lost their magic long before—probably about the time they stopped wrapping the Ding Dongs in foil. ---

I’m not much of a consumer of such things, but does it have anything to do with them removing trans-fats or monkeying with them some other way in order to make them healthier? ---

The company chose to shut down rather than come to a contract agreement with its bakers. The brand has been sold off and relaunched by someone else. I expect that the new owners aren’t using exactly the same processes/facilities/personnel/ingredients that were used before. ---

Hostess fruit pies are a mere shadow of their former selves. The were terrible in their own awesome way that made them awesome in their terribleness. Now they’ve lost the awesome and all that’s left is the terrible. ---

One of my weird habits/indulgences is when I’d travel out west, if I was going to be taking a long drive, I’d get a Hostess blackberry pie for the trip. (I suspect it’s a regional thing; I’ve never seen the blackberry pies in the east.) You’re right, they aren’t what they once were. Seems to me that they put less filling in than they used to, which changes the vital filling-to-crust ratio. The last bite, filled to overflowing with blackberryness, was the best part. Now, alas, the thrill is gone. ---

The products don’t taste as good, and the shift of ownership successfully busted the union, so the inferior products are being made by workers making much less money with substantially worse benefits. Maybe we’re getting what Hostess is paying for. ---
