Man, console gamers are some of most annoying people on the planet.
Do you stand in front of nice restaurants shouting at people?
“HEY, HEY YOU! YEAH YOU, EATING THAT FANCY STEAK, YOU KNOW YOU CAN GET A PERFECTLY GOOD BURGER OVER AT BURGER KING, RIGHT? I MEAN NOT TO BOTHER YOUR MASTER RACE DUMB ASS OR ANYTHING, BUT THAT’S WHY BURGER KING AINT NEVER GOING AWAY!”
That said, the link leads to a 960 on Rakuten for $350 which is about $125 more than it should cost looking at other retailers.
Edit: No idea if that was intentional or SDMB’s habit of changing links to preferred retailers. I just clicked my NewEgg link and it took me to Walmart
The link takes me to newegg where it’s listed for $229.
I don’t have any interest in consoles and haven’t for a while. The last one I owned and played regularily was probably the Dreamcast. And, while I do play new and more graphics intense games, I also do a lot of retro gaming also and thats more difficult on a console. Because a PC is backwards compatible forever I can play the original X-Com games or anything else from whatever era that I want to free or very cheaply and with a minimum of fuss and bother. I have a bigger library and between GoG, Steam, and other services, I pay much less for even new release games than I would on a console. It adds up over the years. And since my current comp was built in 2007 and has not had more than a few of minor changes I’ll probably get more years out of a new PC than I would a console.
That’s good. I’d hate to see you overpay. Also, I was wondering if TBG was looking at a vastly inflated price on that card.
If someone only has $400, I’d certainly recommend a console right now over a $400 computer. If someone can afford the PC, I’d recommend the PC. I have no interest in consoles “going away”. The PC port of Batman sucked but, on the flip side, I pity the console players playing Fallout 4 right now without the immediate benefit of mods (and the console command to work around bugs). Use your noodle and find the solution that works best for you.
You also need to consider the savings over time:. no multi-player fee and much lower game prices. And, the more important point, that price isn’t everything. This PC is going to offer things to the OP that consoles can’t, form a much larger library of highly rated exclusive titles than the PS4 will ever have, to much better performance and graphics.
There’s nothing wrong with just preferring consoles, or having consoles to supplement PC gaming for whatever reasons, but the bottom line is that TBG is being the worst kind of idiot.
Completely ignorant of PC gaming (and salty as hell of the scene apparently), he feels the need to be loud and obnoxious with his ignorance.
Fair enough, like I said I wasn’t aiming the comment at you, I hope you didn’t take it that way (though it seems you didn’t, since your reasonable and level headed response didn’t come off that way). I hope you enjoy and get many years out of your new machine when you get it.
Clicking the link for me leads to a card listed at $249, though after my post I did notice there are some options you can select that give different card configurations on the same page, some of which are cheaper.
Fallout 4’s not really that buggy that I feel disadvantaged without access to console commands or mods. About the only really big problem I had was when it dumped me to the dashboard out of nowhere once, and that’s not really something a mod/console command would help with. knock wood
Obviously, PC’s are for some, consoles for others, and I never intended to imply anything was wrong with that, I just see a lot of that PC Master Race garbage around the internet and the prices brought my comments to mind, so I put them down in a post. I never intended anyone here to think I was calling them that, or imply this thread was engaging in such, and if they took it that way, they shouldn’t have. I also didn’t intend for it to get so hijacky, it was just my thoughts as they came to me reading the thread.
Last I checked you did not have moderator written under your name so I will kindly ignore your instructions to go away and continue posting in a manner I did not feel violated the rules. I did not aim my comments at anyone here, nor did I issue any personal insults (or any insults at all for that matter), unlike you. I merely posted my thoughts on a tangent that occurred to me upon perusing the thread, and if that happened to be too off topic (by a mod’s discretion) I assume they would be perfectly capable to have said so. I don’t know why you are so mad, perhaps something in your life is not going well, maybe you just had a bad day, I dunno, and it’s not my business, so I will forgive your baseless personal insults, and wish you a nice day and hope whatever made you so angry is short term and nothing more. God bless you and have a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, etc.
So wait, you want to make sure none of that “PC Master Race” shit goes on, you know, like people hijacking threads and shit to make snide comments about choice of platform, so in order to make sure that sort of shit doesn’t happen, you just go into a thread to threadshit some snide comments about choice of platform even though it has nothing to do with anything?
Your comment was entirely inappropriate, and the idea that you’re fighting some sort of “PC Master Race” evangelism by doing the exact same sort of stuff out of the blue yourself is ridiculous. Go away.
Ok I am typing this on the new machine.
The SSD makes a huge difference in windows load time. I am still downloading steam games so we’ll see what the games are like.
This is the quietest comp I have ever heard. It makes only the faintest noise and I can only hear it because its late at night and theres no other sound.
I think I love this Fractal Designs case. Seriously. It’s a black box, but what’s inside is top notch. The right side (where the motherboard goes) has lots of openings with rubber cutouts so you can route cables through the other side. All you can see are a few cable ends disappearing through the holes. There is some space between the motherboard plate and that side of the case, so there’s room for the cables. And the drives. You screw them onto the side of the plate in a way that’s hard to describe but incredibly cool looking. So you have an incredibly clean layout with barely any cables or drives to clutter it up. The 2 included fans are huge but very quiet and the airflow will keep it cool. There is room for 5 or 6 more fans, I think. Plus I can go water-cooled if I want.
I also picked up a 24" Element LED 1080p television with a ton of different input options so I can hook my old video game systems up to it and possibly even watch tv on it.
So of course after getting the comp up and running I had to hit the steam sale. Yes folks, Christmas is a wonderful time to build a new comp and then take advantage of huge holiday deals. I picked up GTA V, Shadows of Mordor, Pillars of Eternity, Transistor, and a bunch more. See you in April!
People tend to want to cheap out on the case, but a good case makes cable management and the prospect of upgrading later down the line painless, vs the sliced fingers and hassle of a cheapo case.
