I want to be able to receive e-mail, and I also need to change my e-mail address. How do I do this? ---

Click on the User CP button. It’s just to the left of the Straight Dope logo on my screen. I use IE 6.x, don’t know where the button would be on other browsers. ---

It’s just to the RIGHT of the Straight Dope logo on my screen, up there at the top right of the screen. I dunno what browser I use. ---

Har de Har Har Yet you comedians don’t WARN him that when he changes his email address he gets locked out until he’s reactivated by an admin. Happened to me last year. Scary stuff, man. I had DTs and other withdrawal symptoms…night sweats…loss of language function… Brrr ---

As I understand it, that’s not the normal sequence of events. I dunno what happened to you, but the server should simply send a confirmation e-mail to your new address which you must click thru to re-activate your account. Same procedure that applies for new registrations and when a member requests a forgotten password. ---

**Jonathan** , is it possible, perhaps, that you mistyped your e-mail address when changing it? In that case, you wouldn’t get the confirmation e-mail, so you wouldn’t be able to confirm, so we’d have a royal mess.
