I paint in oils, purely for fun (though my work has hung in people’s homes and a few galleries.) I ran out of canvas this morning, and when I did a wash I noticed that one pair of jockey shorts had several rips in it coming out of the dryer. On a whim, I stapled the shorts to a wooden frame, and primed a ten inch square in the middle. Now I have a surface to paint on, but I’m thinking: what would be a good subject to paint on such a surface? Best answer wins co-ownership of the result. The “Hanes” label, with the size (40) on the waistband is clearly visible. ---

A few suggestions: 1. A photo-realistic Big Mac (or Whopper) sitting on it’s wrapper with some fries and a blob of ketchup. 2. A painting of a local sewage treatment plant. 3. Satellite view of a hurricane. ---

On second thought, maybe you should leave it as it is. Go through your clothes and find other old things, staple them to frames and have an exhibition called ‘The State of Fashion and Art in America’ or something. You could then create some sort of a write up that decries the fashion world’s use, abuse, and degradation of the female form, and ask the world to strive towards a happier, art-based clothing culture. Toss in something about sweat shops, and you’ve got the next big thing on your hands. ---
