Wanted: Ideas from college students

I guess these are students at Centre? If my experience is any guide, they’ll want booze and plenty of it. (It is, after all, a dry county.)

I had lots of ideas, but other people beat me to them. Sounds like a great idea, though.

Hey!!!(waving arms frantically) SEND ME ONE!!! As a broke college student, here are some of the things that I’d like in a care package. (assuming that it’s a big one):
1. Calling card
2. Plates, cups, forks, etc.
3. Gift certificates to McDonalds. You can get
those in any denomination.
4. little shampoo travel sized thingees.
5. address book/phonenumber book
6. local fast food menus. Those are free, and very
useful.
7. local phone book
8. gum, candy, food, etc.
9. really unusual ink pens
10. stationary!!! send me some, too!!!
11. notepads and post it notes.
12. toothbrush
13. If you get nothing else, get some sticky tack
and some of those little stick on hooks that
don’t take off the paint on the walls. You
usually can’t damage the walls, so these are
very helpful.
14. Roll of tape. I’m always out of the stuff.
15. disposable camera.
16. floppy disks!!! No college student can live
without them!!!
17. planner for writing homework and stuff in.
18. towels, soapdish, shower caddy, bandaids<<
19. folders, pencils, and other school supplies.
20. razors

Okay, twenty seems like a good number to stop at. This is probably my longest post, ever. I don’t know what your budget is, but the things that you have already sound great. I go to a college in Louisiana with crappy care packages, which explains why I have such a long list. Hope you find some of these useful, and if you’re bored, send me one! I’m pathetic enough!

Hey xanadu at least you got a care package!! I didn’t, had to buy everything I have, and I am making my food supplies last(which means when I cook, I eat the leftovers again and again until there is nothing left. Want beans for breakfast?)

Oh, you all are tugging at my heartstrings! I’d love to keep you all in poster putty and Cup o’ Soup for all eternity.

Thanks again for the marvelous suggestions. I forsee some happy students in the future!

Aw! I probably shouldn’t complain, I guess.

Care packages. They saved my life in my undergrad years. Hell, they’d save my life right now in my grad years!!!

a) baked goods. Cookies. They rock
b) pictures of home - the home town
c) letters from friends and family. Just general “hellos” from everyone. They were great to read through when I got the blues.
d) toiletries. Not the basics, but stuff to pamper the overworked student. My mum used to send me nice shampoos and soaps and stuff. It was a nice break from the tight-budget-stuff I could afford.
e) calling cards. Those rocked.
f) gift certificates for well-known food chains or grocery store chains. Those were a godsend! My uncle used to send me some restaurant gift certificates - meant that once a month, I could afford a nice meal out.
g) same as f, but for movie theatres. They’re available in 5$ chunks and up… it was nice to be able to escape! And with 5$ on a tuesday, we could go see a feature flick!

There’s lots more - most of which has already been posted.

So, ok, I’m a poor unfortunate gradstudent.
