Afternoon all! I have just found out that the impending nibling (due April- I remember someone asked, can’t remember if I answered) is \*Drumroll\* a girl! My brother managed to tell me this without setting fire to or blowing up anything- without even a cake with a hidden coloured layer. Honestly, it’s like they’re not trying to be trendy at all 😃 I should be doing course-irk today, but I’m running very low on damns, and I don’t wanna. I’m abouton schedule anyway, I think. I could wander over to the liberry and see if I can find out how onsite printing of stuff works- aside from anything else, they have reasonably priced cake (sans inner pink layer). I have to say, Masters students do seem to be the awkward step-child of the campus; they say we can join in on everything, but do tend to forget to tell us how or when… Anyway; pub later. ---

Our house was built in 1934, and has had three additions over the decades. One of them was the large front bedroom. Unfortunately, there’s large Japanese cedar growing about four feet from it. It has grown quite a bit since I’ve owned the house, and its roots are pulling up the walk and threatening the house. It’s a beautiful tree that gives us a little protection from the rain and snow. But it’s a danger to the house. It’s also very, very messy, dropping bits on the roof (allowing moss to take hold) and the bits completely covering the the walk. It is being cut down as I type. I’m sad it will be gone, but I’m glad it will be gone. I’m sure the neighbours will be shocked. ---

Well, the wife’s echo came back fine, which is good news. Bad news is that we still don’t know what’s causing her issues. I suspect the cardio will want to see her again to talk about it. We send donations to the local cat adoption place. Last time, our name was thrown in the hat for a drawing and yesterday they told us we won. The prize is to have a pet photographer take pics of our cat, one of which will be included in the 2023 calendar. When I was a kid mumble, mumble) years ago, my mother would make sweet potato casserole with pineapple in it and mushmallows on top. I liked it then, but not enough to make it that way now. Also, I love green beans, but not in casserole. The only time I’ve eaten them that way that I liked was when my foodie Sister-in-Law made them. I don’t remember her recipe, but it involved a home made cheese sauce involving a very good Swiss cheese. We may or may not even have a turkey for T-day, although I love turkey. When I was a single lad living alone, I used to buy boneless turkey rolls and cook them up in my pressure cooker and then eat turkey based dinners from the results for a week. Over the years it had gotten so big that we could pick cherries off it from the upstairs window. It was starting to push the gingerbread off the back of the house. We had to, sadly, have it removed. (Actually, I think I cut it down myself, but I’m not sure.) Of course, when they planted it, that part of the house probably wasn’t there yet. Well, today I have to tempt fate once again and do another plumbing job. (I’ve done 2 already this week.) There’s a valve in the middle of a run of water pipe that’s leaking. I need to replace it with a new valve. I’ll have to shut off water to the whole house, so naturally the chances of this one going okay goes down. Wish me luck! ---

We had a wild cherry tree in the back yard. I never knew it was such until it was cut down, since it didn’t actually have cherries or flowers. There was a big wind storm in 2007, and a 30-foot branch broke off. (Fortunately, it was far enough away to miss the house.) That became firewood. One of the trunks broke in another wind storm and had to be cut down. The remaining trunk was none too healthy, so it went too. We had lots of firewood for a while. ---

As the guys started up their saws, I asked them if they could put the logs in a certain place. The boss said yes, if he could drive the truck on the lawn. I said ‘Great,’ and gave him the thumbs-up. I looked out the window a little bit ago, and they were dumping the chips where I wanted the logs! A bit of a miscommunication. They spread some of the chips, and shovelled the rest back into the truck. They said they were going to dump them with a neighbour who wants them. They’re stacking logs now. There’s a large bit of stump still. I hope they plan on cutting it. ---

Happy (checks calendar) Firday! I cannot keep up with the days anymore. Chilly morning at the park, I saw flurries on the way. Echo and Bandit (the rottie) finally figured out how to play together. He’s more than twice her size, and for whatever reason, she wants to wrestle with him. Tag doesn’t work so well because she is nimble and quick, he is like a tank. Once he gets going, he is pretty fast, as long as he can stay in a straight line. Heaven help him if he tries to stop in the pavilion and the floor is wet. **Shoe** , I saw [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRpl7HDNlIY&list=FLau-r13qnUqIi6oC0z8-PGQ&index=2) and for some reason I thought of you. My lawn guy is coming out today to give me an estimate on my tree. Some kind of maple, and it’s probably close to 100 years old. I usually turn up the radio, but she will turn it back down saying we can’t talk with it that loud. I think, I know, that is the point. When she isn’t telling me how to run my life, she is gossiping (which I hate) or she falls into her habit of using lots of pronouns and I have no idea who she is talking about. Then she gets mad at me because I don’t know what she is talking about. I don’t like green bean casserole, so I never learned how to make it. I’m not all that crazy about sweet potato casserole either. I’ll eat one tiny spoonful of the kind with marshmallows on top. My mother makes one that is not so sweet, but it has walnuts in it. Yes, **Nettie** , people have gone mad. So, I’m waiting on the lawn guy. I need to do some laundry, which may or may not get done. I have a steak in the fridge that I need to do something with today. My son called in sick to irk yesterday, he’s still in bed, which is fine by me. He woke up screaming and scared the shit out of everybody yesterday. He has nightmares or something, quite often I hear him yelling in his sleep. This was a bloodcurdling scream though. He’s been feeling poorly the last few days though. I told him to call in on Moonday, but he has it in his head that you have to be near death to call in sick. I think the interrupted sleep with the ickiness was too much for him. I need to write a note and put it in my neighbor’s mail slot. Her cat was crying all night last night. I tried to call her cell and it’s not in service and of course she didn’t answer her house phone. I don’t know if her cat is hungry, hurt, or lonely. She goes away sometimes for a day or two. ---

We’ve gotten rid of the maples, Sahirrnee. At least the ones not in the ravine. They were unhealthy, leaning, and made a horrible mess every year. Still have some of the last one left in the wood pile and in the little shed I built out of reclaimed materials. Oh, and some next to the fireplace. ---

I can date the photos on Google Maps by whether or not they included the big dead tree in the front yard. The previous owner killed it when she rocked over the yard and didn’t give the tree any way to get water. It was almost dead when we bought the place and was a hazard to anyone driving by, so one day we just hired the neighbor’s Lawn Guys to cut it down. Made a big difference in the appearance of the place. The neat thing is that a palm tree sprout had taken hold against the tree before it died. When they cut the tree down, they asked if I wanted them to dig up the palm, which was all of 2 feet high. I said no. Three years later and the palm is thriving and is the centerpiece to the yard these days. About 8 feet high and headed for 80. ---

Four hours and $1,200 later, the tree is down, the logs are stacked, the chips are… somewhere, and the walk and the roof have been blown. Mrs. L.A. left cash. I counted the money, and it was nice to hold a dozen Benjamins for a minute. Mrs. L.A. still hasn’t put away the Halloween decorations. [Monty](https://www.amazon.com/Design-Toscano-Montclaire-Halloween-Decoration/dp/B002VM5E2E) is still in the ‘flower bed’ (Ha!) along with the Happy Halloween sign. We’re home and I’ve retrieved my car. It was a lovely drive, and boy-howdy was it windy! Good-sized whitecaps on the bay and a high wind warning on the bridge. We talked to our broker, walked around their yard, then drove to Cambridge and had lunch at a Chinese restaurant. **FCD** doesn’t want supper, but I’d thawed a couple of tuna steaks yesterday, so I’m going to grill one for me. Then chillage shall ensue. ---

I would be too. SQUEE!!! (And that’s for both of them.) Done erranding for now. Got the Princess a catnip/silvervine mix at Petsmart. She seems to like it so far. Walmart featured two customers going off on staff, and I was at one of the better Walmarts in the area, not the totally ghetto one! Lots of sparse areas scattered about the store (frozen meals, shelf-stable pantry items, bleach, paper goods, pet supplies), but I was able to find everything I felt urgent about getting. Even got my booster shot as a walk-in. Just had to fill out a form, give them my card for updating, and wait my turn. Probably going to be a bit tired for a few days, if I’m consistent with prior history (got Moderna again. That seems to be consistent at Walmart pharmacies). ---
