So, what’s your take on the “double” question from that broadcast? Was it or was it not the real Saddam? You make the call.
I say not. It sure looks like him, but the mannerisms are not his. Hey, I saw Kagemusha! It’s possible to find a double, but hard to find a consistent actor.
White house does not believe it was a double, and we know that they have been doing things like voice analysis to try and figure this out. He usually only uses doubles for motorcades, nto Tv appearances.

NBC: Reports that this early phase could take days: the big campaign may be waiting until troops are in place to assault major cities.
However, if there is going to be a huge air-based campaign, it will happen late at night (which makes sense: prevent people from getting any sleep)
NPR just reported that the Apache crew had been found and are fine.
Yep: a second “hard-landing”
Suggest you may want to take a peek at this article.
OK, “ignore all” might be a little strong, but yea, the truth is going to be mixed in with a lot of noise.

Sure: but it’s not that hard to keep track of what information who has, so you know if information you are getting from someone is really new, or based on misconceptions that better informed sources have alrady dealt with. This is a news operation, after all. No one is asking for perfectly accurate information: just some organization and context given to the claims being made.
Special Ops expert suggests that the major campaign may be held back if the U.S. thinks major defections or surrenders could come, saving us the ordinance. He speculates that if there is going to be a major attack soon, it will be later tonight (during prime-time here, and late at night there). But it may not be tonight at all.
But there is speculation that it may have been a pre-recorded message. So he may be dead, even if that was him on the tape.
CNN is reporting that, according to a British military spokesman, the city has not yet been captured by British troops.
Yes yes, I already mentioned that.
The lights just went out in the Fox studio, leaving the odd sight of a black figure reading the news behind the backdrop of an otherwise brightly lit newsroom.
Ground forces appear to be waiting, laying down preparatory fire. Embedded reporter on CBS says it seems like “something is coming soon.”
I am listening to CNN on the radio.
They just reported that there is rumors that top Iraq officials are meeting to negotiate a surrender. If anyone knows more than that I would like to know.
Various news sources are saying that Shock and Awe has been postponed until they can be more sure about the condition of Iraq’s leadership.
they just repeated the message, well it seems that they are secret meetings between the Saddam’s Inner Circle about a possible surrender.
So shhh, don’t go telling everyone.
I finally got to check out the story. So here it is, in case it gets crowded again:

I think it would be really neat if Iraq surrendered and we leave the “shock and awe” thing for Hollywood to simulate.

whoa… I’m watching the Baghdad webcam link from a couple of posts up, and it’s about 4:40AM Baghdad local time. You could hear clear as a bell the broadcasting of prayers (I assume) over loudspeakers.
What time in the morning do Muslims usually start their prayers? Always this early?
