WARNING - stop whining

Ed- I urge you to reconsider that decision. Please.

I would like to respond to this banning, but I’ll do so in this Pit thread.

Snark or no Otto asked a valid question. Can we get an answer? If you won’t tolerate posters complaining or being rude to your mods and admins, will you commit to a policy of ensuring that mods and admins are not rude to posters?

I also would like to see an answer to Otto’s reasonable and valid question. Thanks.

Supervising the staff is my concern and isn’t a matter for public debate. All in all the mods and admins do an admirable job and I’m grateful for their efforts. If you find them rude, you’re welcome to find another board where the staff is more to your liking. I don’t wish to hear any further comments just now about SDMB administration. Today is not the day to be pushing your luck.

Brings back ugly memories of a poster known as the Grapist,

No thanks.

Constructive comment in regards to the concept of whining.

There are reasons why people become querulous when faced with ongoing irritation. It is not behavior that is out of line without exception.

Whining means to complain in a way that is irritating in its nature. It is obvious, by the nature of this thread, that the staff have become irritated and seem to be making note of it in a way that has caused extreme distress to those who make up the boards — staff, members and guests alike.

In other words, the complaint seems to be irritating in and of itself. (It has stimulated an inflammatory response.)

I am not commenting on the staff, but on the nature of the mutual, self-reinforcing irritation and whining that cannot be overcome by ill-considered rigidity and the flippant, casual use of power.

Do you count as staff?
Because, I mean, will do.

As in:

This post as been Green Inked by the Green Inker!!!

That sort of thing?

Looks like somebody needs a hug. Hang in there, Ed. Most of us do appreciate the efforts made around here - by Jerry, the board staff, and yourself.

The whole concept of “whining” is problematic as well. As I originally understood the word, it meant to complain or object to something in a childish tone of voice. One couldn’t have possibly whined in writing, because the vocal effect was key.

Now it seems to be used generally to mean, to complain repetitively and annoyingly about something, often a rule, that the whiner finds distasteful. But very often, it is used by the listener (or reader) to say, “I really don’t have the time or inclination to consider your stupid little issues, however important they seem to you, so just suck it up.” I’m not saying that’s what’s happened in this case, but I will say I that I see the term “whining” used in just that way by many.
