I did drive that stretch of State Street recently, and Warshawsky is clearly gone. But the Blue Star Auto Parts store is still nearby at 2001 S. State, looking ancient.
As a child growing up in Harvey from 59 to 67, my Dad would stop by JC Whitney (on the other side of the tracks, if memory serves) in Harvey. We kids waited in the car because I guess my Dad thought better of letting us loose inside. My Dad was a man who never believed in wasting money on a new car so he was under the hood quite a bit. It was cool to us that our Dad could maintain and repair his own car. He had relocated to Harvey from Chicago so I’m sure he must have been a customer of the original store way before he had all of us kids hanging on him.
