# Was Gabriele Kerner's (Nena's) career in English-speaking countries really derailed because of pit hair?

I’m bang in the demographic, I was there and keenly aware.

Her pits were noted but irrelevant. The song was a foreign language novelty and huge follow-up success would have been the exception rather than the norm.

This was the period of Boy George “gender-bending” and Morissey with a hearing-aid and Gladioli. Pit-hair barely registers as a barrier to success.

I find armpit hair much more attractive than shaving.
