Was Gary Larson the best cartoonist there ever was?

Well, there’s not much in the site’s galleries. Check out some of his books. You’ll be converted.

There was another one that showed a bunch of befuddled-looking brain surgeons standing around a patient, with the lead surgeon saying something like, “C’mon guys, this isn’t auto mechanics!”

“Mr. Osborne, may I be excused? My brain is full.”

Man on safari, to guide: “The situation has changed. Take my buffalo gun, and hand me my mime rifle.”

Hunters on safari, confronted with a charging elephant: “Look out! This one has a knife!”

Cro magnons taunting neanderthals: “Neanderthals! Neanderthals! Can’t make fire! Can’t make wheel!”

The one with the leopard sleeping in a tree, with numerous cameras hanging from nearby branches, one eye popping open as he hears the sound of a shutter clicking …

The ultimat gopher insult: “Oh yeah? Well you don’t know which way is up!”

Sorry bro, not funny, nor clever.

I absolutely love PBF.

Some of my favorites:

Post Apocalyptic
The Other Girls
A Hit for Bobby
Chew Boy
Billy The Bunny
Angry Hammer

And my all-time favorite, Disgusting Ted

The last two got a chuckle out of me.

Ladies and gentlemen, and children: We are coming very near to personal insults here, and that’s a no-no. It is possible for intelligent, well-educated, well-informed people to have different tastes, especially when it comes to art and humor and the combination thereof.

You will henceforth carry on civil discussion without rancor and without recreational outrage that someone else might disagree with you.

OK you young’uns probably have only seen Larsen. Of course one would have to separate content from artistic style. There are many “better” artists than Larsen.

Going back a bit youve got the great Charles Addams. Across the pond there was Giles (great style and detail), http://www.gilescartoons.co.uk/ )
Ffolkes, (cant find a decent set)
Honeysett ( Punch )

to name but a few

That reminds me of another one. There’s a hunter holding his gun and looking around, and there’s a deer on his hind legs hiding behind a tree. The deer is thinking “Okay. Do I know this guy? I’ve got to think!”

[QUOTE=Leaffan]
Two Safari hunters peering through the tall grass at elephants on swings, coming down slides. “Egad Simmons, we’ve found it: the secret elephant playground!”/QUOTE]
A field of broken and smashed beds. “The Secret Elephant Matings Grounds”

No. Bill Watterson, Dan Piraro, Joe Martin, Jerry van Amerongen and even Bill Unger have made me laugh much more than Larson ever did. van Amerongen, in particular, is twisted in a way that IMHO Larson can only dream of.
