Was George Bush Sr. Deep Throat?

Liddy didn’t invent that idea – it was the basis on Len Colodny’s book.

I think Robert Woodward forfeited his right to the benefit of our doubt with his B.S. deathbed confession from William Casey. He proved with that farce, once and for all, that he’s willing to make stuff up to further a story.

I always had some doubt about whether Deep Throat existed. Today, I’m 90% sure he never existed.

I find it mighty convenient (and mighty odd) that Woodward will reveal Deep Throat’s identity only AFTER Deep Throat is dead! For the sake of argument, if he fingers Al Haig the day after Haig’s death, well, how’s Haig going to deny it?

As I’ve said on these boards before, in denying the existence of Deep Throat, I am NOT saying Woodward falsified the Watergate story or that Nixon was innocent.
Rather, I’m saying Woodward pieced together the Watergate story from a variety of sources, but felt compelled to make up one BIG source to pull everything together.

So why did this guy just say he’s Deep Throat, and have it confirmed by everyone? You’ve totally lost me.

Astorian, I’m not sure but I think you may have missed that this is an older thread that was bumped today because someone confessed to being Deep Throat and it was confirmed by Woodward, Bernstein and the Washington Post. Scroll up a little.

There is a certain resemblance.

Death bed confession from Casey? What was that about?

In Woodward’s book, Veil, he claimed that he managed to get into William Casey’s room just before he died and get a deathbed confession to Casey’s involvement in Iran-Contra. The whole tale pretty sent everybody’s bullshit detectors into the red at the time and hurt Woodward’s credibility.

I think the Post is just trying to say that Felt was an important source, but that they uncovered a lot of other information without him. Woodward, Bernstein, and Bradlee are trying to keep the Post’s rep up because of the Watergate scandal.

Yikes!

I just turned on the American channel. Pat Buchannan said that the people who brought down Nixon were responsible for the fall of South Vietnam, the holocaust in Cambodia and so on.

“Nixon was brought down by people much worse than he was.”

On one level you have to admire loyalty, but jeepers!

Some people are fortunate enough not to have to worry about credibility. But I agree with you, some people have engage in serious revisionism about Nixon.

Gosh, I had a terrible dream last night.

I dreamed that I was on the SDMB denying the existence of Deep Throat hours after everyone else on the planet knew his real name was Mark Felt.

Hoo boy, that would have been embarrassing if it had really happened!

I can’t believe I’m the first to post this - front page of Free Press this morning.

Since ya’ll aren’t subscribers to the Winnipeg Free Press I copied this off a site…

W. Mark Felt (aka Deep Throat)
W. Mark Felt, a former associate director of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation, was the main whistleblower during the Watergate scandal of the 1970s. He recently revealed himself to be the mysterious source known as “Deep Throat” who assisted Washington Post reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein in their investigation into the scandal. His identity was kept secret for more than thirty years, until he revealed it himself in an article in Vanity Fair magazine. On May 31, 2005, Woodward, Bernstein and their chief editor at the time, Benjamin Bradlee, confirmed his claim to be true.

Because of the scandal, Richard Nixon resigned as President and several White House aides ended up serving prison terms.
So it’s not Bush - but Felt. Reactions?

biscuithead, you might want to read posts #54-#91 of this thread.

Boy oh boy. First we lose to North Carolina, then we botch the Deep Throat investigation. What else can go wrong for the Illini?

Which brings me to an idea I just had today!

How about a remake of “All the President’s Men” with “Deep Throat” played this time by none other than…

Mark Felt!

The character can be shown in darkness again. That way we can see no physical age. As for the voice difference between now and back then, do we not have the technology to “de-age” a voice?

No?

Okay, how’s this?

A new movie, titled “The making of ATPM”!

Or better yet, “Hal Holbrook and the Making of ATPM”

Or even just “The Life & Times of HH”

Then we can have MF playing HH playing MF.

Unless, of course we end up with a “Kramer” situation and someone in casting says that MF just isn’t good enough an actor to play… himself!

Baa Buh-buh ba-ba-ba
-daduh daduh!

True Blue Jack

The dude’s 91 years old! Do you think he’s up to acting?

Hm! Can acting talent be “teched-in”?

TBJ

I think a certain Director/marketing genius/technophile has recently shown that it can not.

Oh and on topic, I never ever in my life expected to really learn who Deepthroat was. Life is interesting ain’t it.

He can be played by Christopher Lee (especially in the light saber duel with Darth Buchanan).

Actually, I’m wondering if Woody Bernstein* is going to re-relase ATPM, this time giving Felt’s name and details about the actual info sources and other things that were fudged to shield Felt. (I think it’d be a great buddy movie for Freddie Prinze, Jr. and Matthew Lillard.)

Zoe bless you.
I was dancing around like I was a little kid needing to use the restroom but it would be soooo uncool to say anything myself.
But I am that shallow to want to point it out.
I’ll try to return the favor sometime.
