Maybe it’s like battered spouse syndrone – after Bush beats them around a bit with Miers, they’ll swear ever-lovin’ devotion when he sofens up and throws out an Alito.

Is Miers a smokescreen? Since I can’t get seats on the 50-yard line then I’m left with my observations after-the-fact. Harriet Miers, the person in charge of vetting SC candidates for the President, walked away from her withdrawal speech grinning like a Cheshire cat.
