Totally agree. But I think McCain also thought “Maybe I can tap that and not get caught.” The two aren’t mutually exclusive, but I think if she looked like Barbara Mikulski, maybe McCain woulda said, “Uh, let’s keep considering our options,” is all.
I think even her male Democratic detractors - and I am one of them - would concede that she’s one of the top two hottest Vice Presidential candidates in all of American history.
So what exactly are you saying? Are you saying that McCain would have picked a different VP if he hadn’t thought Palin was hot? Or that McCain thought Palin was hot and, coincidentally, she was also the best possible candidate to get him elected?
Personally I find the idea ridiculous.
Are we talking just major parties? Because some of those Socialist Worker Party candidates are total babes.
Finding the question on the absurd side, I answered the first choice. He undoubtedly picked her because he thought it would help him win. He would have realized that winning would give him his best chance of nailing her. Most politicians know they can get much hotter tail than Palin if they want. And none of them want to be doing it with another politician.
More the first than the second.
Did you folks not see the footage of McCain checking out Palin’s ass on some podium? He might as well have worn a sign around his neck saying “Gotta get me some of THAT.”

I think the fact the she is an attractive women played a factor, but not because he wanted to do her himself – he was counting on her appealing to voters. If she had been really ugly, that would have been a big barrier to her selection. It’s harder for ugly people to get elected.

I suspect a person can think that McCain didn’t choose Palin in expectation of boning her without “trusting in the Senator’s public rhetoric about Palin’s qualifications.”
For instance you could (like a whole lot of people in the thread have already suggested) think that McCain chose Palin because he: (a) hoped disgruntled Hillary supporters would vote for any ticket that had a vagina on it; (b) figured he needed to do something ‘mavericky’ to inject excitement into his campaign; and/or (c) was thwarted from going with his first pick.
Personally, I think John C. Calhoun was a total babe. If memory serves me Andrew Jackson thought so too. Wasn’t there some famous quote by Jackson, where Jackson said he wanted to engage in erotic asphyxiation with Calhoun, and shoot his load into Henry Clay? Or am I remembering my history wrong?
He really really wanted Joe Lieberman but the party elders would have had a cow over it. So they looked at Hillary’s successes against Obama and figured that some women would vote for any Vagina-American on his ticket, she was handy and her looks certainly didn’t hurt her appeal with him. He’s an old horn dog and I’m sure boning her was never far from his mind.
I suspect Tim Pawlenty was McCain’s first choice.

Clearly we’ve read different books on the Vice Presidency. 
I found it odd when the subject even came up. Do guys really jump from “I’m attracted to this woman” to “I want to have sex with this woman” so easily? Is it so hard to believe that guys can see someone who is attractive and not want to have sex with her?
And, anyways, Palin’s not that attractive. Sure, she’s the most attractive female politician in the popular arena, but that’s not saying much. I’m pretty sure 50% of the people I run across on a day to day basis are hotter than she is.
Seriously? Hell yes.
In fact sometimes we jump right past being attracted and want to have sex with women we find unattractive.
