Hitler was close friends with [Ernst “Putzi” Hanfstaengl](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ernst_Hanfstaengl)for years, though eventually things went sour and Hanfstaengl had to leave Germany. ---

If you’ve never seen any of Hitler’s watercolours from his starving artist in Vienna days, they’re mostly of buildings. Speer was an architect, who created drawings of buildings. So, the failed artist in Hitler admired the successful artist that Speer was. ---
