Parents who are anti-Establishment, from any of many non-Christian cultures or Atheist would likely have a problem with any Christian church. My guess is that more parents than not would take issue with that particular church as a choice. ---

She’s a liberal Catholic. ---

I don’t think all rabid homophobes are gay, no. However, it does seem to me that the only thing that explains the specific arguments about “resisting these urges” and so on are homosexual desires, because people at the ends of the Kinsey scale don’t _have_ those urges. There is no temptation luring you into the arms of men if you are a straight man. ---

Here’s the thing. It’s not always about gay sex, but more about sex in general. But it’s hard to preach about how men are lustful and women are temptresses and we’re all going to hell – untill we get married and then it’s a gift from God that we not only should use for reproduction, but enjoy. So all those dirty, dirty urges we get are just preparation for finding a spouse. But gay sex, that’s something different. We can’t justify those urges on the grounds of being necessary for reproduction. So “gay” becomes a stand-in for all sorts of lustful urges, the influence of popular media, those damn liberal politicians and anything else the “angry old dude” can fit into a sermon. ---
