Bit of a nitpick - Americans don’t need passports to go to Canada. Last time I checked, Canada still lets Americans come north without a passport. It’s getting back to the U.S. that requires the passport - the U.S. now requires US citizens coming back from Canada to have a passport.

When she called last night, as instructed, to make the appointment for Friday - she was told the earliest available spot they had was in June. So, another screw-up on the part of the passport office personnel. (To have told her that she should call Wednesday to get an appointment for Friday.)
All is not lost, however, for she let me know that she saw the status had changed today - there’s a FedEx tracking number with indications that it ships out today.
