You didn’t mention putting water in the gas tanks of the opposing teams’ buses. I’m pretty sure that happened earlier this season, at least once. Can’t remember which team was responsible, though.
Of course, it’s that team in Pittsburgh that’s known for ignoring sovereignty on the high seas and running through opponents at knifepoint.
Jimmy-70 might be be low, but the point stands. If they get to Stras (and Harper’s) walk year without a title, and they leave (as they almost certainly will, Boras won’t let them re-up) what then?
Yeah. I don’t get the “fire Rizzo” attitude at all. Everything else he’s done is forgotten because he was being (possibly) way too careful with one of his biggest talents. He may have been utterly wrong about his handling of Strasburg, but the invalidates everything else?
And the Rizzo haters seem so angry and bitter. And most of them don’t even seem to be Nats fans. Weird.
Well, if they lose 92 games, he might not be doing a good job and should be fired. But let’s wait until this happens.
All real Americans hate the Yankees and know these things to be true. Obviously you are a Yankee apologist. Go back to duh Bronx and wallow in your ill-gotten gains.
Right, I’ll be sure to do that, after I go to the Bronx the first time and then leave, which would then qualify me for being able to go “back” to it.
I’m no Yankees fan, and I’m upset about the loss to the Cardinals, but I’m not going to go so far as to say they cheated. We came back to force Game 5 and had more than enough opportunities to put them away. They just wouldn’t die; Drew Storen had poor pitching; Davey Johnson made questionable strategic decisions.
But if you’re going to call them, and the Yankees, cheaters, and make specific allegations that you then don’t back up, well, I don’t know what can be said to that. The Straight Dope
Fighting Ignorance Since 1973 (It’s Taking Longer Than We Thought)
Why does Boras care about whether they stay or go? It’s about the money, not the location, and assuming they continue to get better the Nats will be happy to shell out for Harper and Strasburg. I think there is a good chance they will do so before their contracts are up. And Boras has been their agent from the beginning, so he doesn’t have a vested interest to oppose a contract extension.
And as noted several times, he had the support of Washington ownership on that one. He might’ve been blamed had it gone wrong, but nobody’s going to fire him based on this.
In Strasburg’s last five starts of the year, he pitched 21 innings and gave up 13 runs. Nothing special. He wouldn’t have saved them. If he *had *been in the playoff rotation, presumably Detwiler wouldn’t have - and he had the only decent start for the Nationals in the playoffs.
The Nationals were out after the NLDS because their pitching - all of the pitching staff - fell apart. Including Gio and JZimmerman. And Jackson. And the middle relief. And the setup guy. And the closer.
Yeah, Gio is a very deserving NL Cy Young candidate, but he was absolutely dreadful in the playoffs. There’s no more adamant way to put it without using profanity.
