Usually they ask for me by name but I tell them that “I’ll get him”. Then I will shout like I’m trying to get somebody’s attention in another part of the house. TM: Mr Bubbadog? Me: Hang on I’ll get him. [shouting] Hey Bubba. Phone call for you! Me: [pause] No. It’s not your mom its some guy. Me: What? Hey man, just pick up the phone. … It’s on the counter next to the desk! Me: Well I didn’t move it. Just come down the stairs and talk to the guy! Me: (to TM) Hang on. He’s on his way. Me: [shouting] No Doris left. You don’t have to put on your pants first. What? What? Yeah I’ll tell him. ME: (to TM) He says hang on he’ll be here in a second. \*\*rinse \*\ ***repeat improvise** My record is 7 minutes 46 seconds before they hang up. ---

I got one going by pretending to be a little “slow” and very friendly. Lots of “uh huhs” and “yeahs” - I couldn’t remember if it was a Visa or a Master Card, but it had a pretty picture of a bird on it! When he got around to wanting the credit card # I said something along the lines of “I got in a bad accident a few years ago and I have trouble thinking sometimes - so I have a friend who comes and takes me shopping. She lets me sign on the pad, but she keeps the card because I sometimes lose things. My wallet has pictures of my friends in it and a card I’m supposed to show someone working at a store if I get lost… cause sometimes that happens, too.” He finally gave up - saying “I don’t know if you are putting me on or just very sweet, but I need to go now” I apologized for making him mad and said I just wanted someone to talk with - and he hung up. 😃 [Previous page](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/wasting-scammers-time/706887.md?page=1)
