# Watchmen - Two-Part Animated Movie Coming August 2024

Teaser just dropped today. I didn’t even know this was in the works! Apparently the first installment will be releasing August 13th (not sure if it’s a theatrical release or if it’s direct to streaming) with Part 2 next year, and will have an R rating.

Color me intrigued. Personally, I thought the 2009 film was just about as good an adaptation of the book that could ever get made, but if they’re going animated then they can probably get away with some of the weirder elements of Moore’s original that the movie left out and the HBO series only briefly touched on.

There already exists **Watchmen – the Motion Comic** , which takes Dave Gibbins’ original drawings and does some very limited motion with them. It’s argguably the most faithful adaptation of the original comic to the medium of motion pictures, if a limited one. Nevertheless, the effect is pretty impressive. I’ve got a copy of it.
