Well of course the pilot light would not stay lit.
So now the box score is a new faucet washer (In stock 
) and a new thermocouple and I appear to be good to go. I’ll see if the pilot is still lit in a couple of hours.
BTW if anyone need arthroscope surgery, I think I am now qualified.
