Water pistols are dangerous weapons, apparantly!

Community service? Youth court? For a fucking water pistol?

Some people really need to get a grip. They’re 10 year old kids - they deserve a stern talking to, and perhaps dad needs to pick up the drycleaner’s tab for the lady who got soaked.

Anything beyond that is a huge exaggeration.

Coldie, they’re not just 10 year olds, they’re 10 year olds who refused to accept a formal warning from the police. That WAS the stern talking to, but they refused it. So, it’s off to court.

Get a grip my ass, it wasn’t a water pistol where the woman got squirted with a little water - they soaked a 50 year old woman.

No respect for the woman or the law. Maybe they need a few days in juvenile detention to reflect on their conduct.

I suppose she could have just smacked the kids rather than attempt to caution them . . .

Nah, the lady did the right thing in call the police.

And I suppose the officer could have smacked the kids when they refused the caution . . .

Nah, the police did the right thing in introducing the kids ot the system.

And I suppose the prosecutor could have insisted on pursuing the charge all the way to conviction . . .

Nah, the prosecutor did the right thing in cutting the kids loose after letting the kids contemplate the importance of acceptiong cautions.

When I was a kid, my uncle who worked in forestry gave me and my 2 brothers the ultimate water gun… a hand pump attached to a 20 litre tank which was strapped to your back. They were damn heavy when filled but you could shoot around half a litre 20 feet or more.

In the days of the 6oz water guns, my brothers and I never lost a water fight.

The trouble is, that in this day and age, kids just laugh off “stern talkings to”. Usually with some smar aleck and snotty “You’re not the boss of me” kind of attitude.

That sort of thing worked in our day, but it just doesn’t seem to impress kids of today.

I think you misspelled “whump:wink:

Gonna have to side with Monty here. This does not seem like abuse of authority. The cops even TRIED to keep it from an arrest, but the kid would have none of it. Nothing else the cops could do, IMO.
