# Water Pressure and a Whole House Filter

I live in a rural area with a well. I installed a whole house water filter (inline) between the well and an expansion tank or pressure tank. I no longer have water pressure. It seems to me like the system is airbound. I tried bleeding the system through the pressure relief valve on the water filter, but it doesn’t seem to help. Should I bleed the system at the pressure tank or should I have instaled the filter after the pressure tank? Any guesses? Thanks!

You might check to see if your pressure tank is waterlogged. A pressure tank needs to be drained every 2 years or so depending on your water usage.

Hmmmm…I posted all this for my husband. As far as I know, the pressure tank has been there for 25 years and I don’t think he’s ever done anything to it. I’ll be sure to ask him. Thanks!!

It’s been many years since I worked w/ kind of stuff, but I’ll venture a wag. Where is your pump controller (press. control switch)? If it’s located inline between the pump and the filter, and the filter is restricting flow, that may be the problem. Either put the controller after the filter, or install the filter downstream from the press. tank.

I’m not sure. I’ll have to ask Mr. K. I can tell you that the house is over 100 years old and we’ve done virtually nothing to the plumbing in the 25+ years he’s been here. Would that make a difference?

When I asked a plumber about this (he was fixing my furnace at the time) he proposed putting the filter between the tank and the water heater. So after the tank might be the way to go.

When I said “this” I didn’t mean your specific case. I meant putting in a filter in _my_ system.
