To (over?)simplify the explanation from the NIH, our bodies will preferentially work on the ethanol first before working on the methanol, giving more time to deal with the methanol - either by the medical professionals directly or by giving the kidneys more time to filter the methanol out before it metabolizes to some nasty stuff. That includes formaldehyde IIRC - home stills accidentally producing methanol being the source of the stereotype of moonshine leading to blindness ---

All the methanol that comes out of a still was in the distillate already. It’s true that the methanol tends to come out first, so if you run your still and keep the very first stuff that comes out separate and drink _just that_ you _can_ cause yourself problems. But distillation cannot create methanol and the risks are wildly overblown. ---

I wasn’t sure in what P&E thread this belongs, but it _is_ Rudy-related: [Ukraine charges officials tied to Hunter Biden probe and Russia - BBC News](https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-67425906) I suspect the Ukrainian courts will be less lenient than American ones. I don’t foresee Rudy being dragged any further into this, though, unless one of them calls him as a witness. ---

We had dehydrated alcohol in stock for exactly this, to be given intravenously. Wanna hear something scary? For a while, IV ethanol was used for PRETERM LABOR. It was the best thing they had. ---

I’d love to have a prescription that literally says “the quantity is naturally indefinite”. Though I did get a prescription once that says “once daily for the rest of your life”. And yeah, I do take it every day, though I get it over the counter now. (Not for alcohol though, I don’t drink very often.) ---
