For me, it’s far too easy to look at the world and see only the negative. The positive tends to float into the background, while the many problems are right out in front. It may not be as interesting, but I think it’s easy to forget that amazing progress has been made.
First of all, B&W sucked. So that’s an improvement.
Second, anticipation isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. I completely enjoyed the latest Star Trek Strange New Worlds about as much as the original series and this time I didn’t have to mess with rabbit ears to get good reception. Progress is a good thing from my point of view, you couldn’t pay me enough to go back to the late 60’s/early 70’s TV way of viewing shows while taking away the choices I have now. To have to wait until a certain time to view entertainment would totally suck.
Managing paychecks and bills is much easier. I now have automatic paycheck deposit, automatic bill payment, and I longer have to pack my wallet full of receipts to cross off against my checking ledger.
I can expand my skill set by taking courses and watching tutorials online without having to enroll in school, deal with registration headaches, or travel to classes. I can renew my license plate without having to wait in line at the DoT. I can work from home full time, saving money on gas. I can do things without having to go through unnecessary middlemen.
Technology eventually erases antiquated notions that some things are beyond human reach.
Quoted for truth. The rivers run cleaner, the rains aren’t as acidic, yeah, but entire swaths of species on every continent are severely diminishing in numbers / heading for extinction right now. This makes any talk of good things happening to the natural world smell like the world record attempt at cherry picking.
