Bad kharma. Decades of arrogance and whining have turned around and bitten Nittany blue! Any team that has fans driving around with bumper stickers saying “If God isn’t a Penn State fan, then why is the sky blue?” deserve whats coming to them! I can’t tell you how many times I almost got into a fight with someone from Penn State because I dared question their program. “Don’t be talking about penn State, man!” I’ve been told! What is this a college, or a religion? Oh yeah, dumb question. When I was in High School, during the morning announcements, I had to hear the past weekends Penn State score. Why? Just because I live in Pennsylvania, I have to root or care about this team? Who said I wanted to go there??? I also once worked for this Ahole from Penn State who had a CARDBOARD CUTOUT OF JOE PATERNO in his office! Lew-ssser!!! Who would have thunk that the cutout would be more capable of coaching the team than the actual man himself? And what exactly was his homoerotic fixation with a 65 year old man that he had to have a life size portrait of him in his office? But the worst is the whining. Like a few years ago when Penn State was ranked #1 early in the season, beat Louisville, but then got demoted to #2 when Nebraska beat a much tougher opponent. Listening to Paterno’s army, you would think the crime of the century was committed! Hey, maybe if PSU played REAL teams, instead of bullying smaller schools all these years, they’d get more respect. Or the “New York Times NCAA Champion” fraud- the year when the world cheated Penn State out of their #1 ranking because they played Oregon in the Rose Bowl, rather than play in the National Championship game. Like Penn State didn’t know they might not be playing for the National Championship when they joined the Big 10. PSU didn’t get cheated- they outsmarted themselves! I think this is great. Maybe the recent humiliation of the Penn State program will knock their egos down a notch. And finally, thankfully, my ears will not be ringing with that annoying phrase: “We are- Penn State!” It’s over, Johnny. ---

I am guessing that you think I went to OU… I did not. as for grammatical skills, well, this is a damn web forum. who the hell cares. This does not detract from the fact that I could care less about OSU. Burn, buckeyes, burn. In fact, however, I did attend the University of Dayton, which, mind you, finally has a very damn competetive basketball team (you can’t comment on football there since UD does not offer football scholarships). So again, OSU can blow me (and, again, not litterally). p.s. - most of my friends that went to OSU simply became a bunch of rambling drunks… so drunk in fact that they didn’t remember when I called them one Thursday afternoon when I lived in Columbus. ---

Not that I would EVER say anything against a school I did not attend, but what the fuck is it with this “Nittany Lions” shit? All of a sudden a couple years ago all of the sports guys in earshot stopped calling them Penn State, which I had heard of, and started calling then the Nittany Lions, as if I knew who the fuck that was AND as if I cared. If I lived within 600 miles of Pennsylvania it might make a LITTLE more sense, but I, and these sports guys, don’t. ---

The truly pathetic thing is that Penn lost to Iowa, a team that last year was not even ranked in the top 10 of the Big Ten. And the only thing more pathetic than that is that anyone would actually CARE about college football. A professional bookie once told me that no serious gambler bets on college sports, it is too risky to bet on “athletes” who are basically just high school kids. ---

Damn straight. I come from Northeast Pennsylvania and every year had all this Penn State crap jammed down my throat. Penn State students, alums, and family–you guys are all exempt. Nothing wrong with school pride. What really pissed me off were the people with no connection whatsoever to Penn State going on and on and on about how great they were and how everyone should feel the same way. Every year the newspapers would talk about how if Penn State didn’t contend for the (mythical) National Title it was a disappointment. And 1994, horrors! Nevermind that Nebraska would have flattened them. They were _ripped off_. I remember 1999 when they were number one and everyone around was going nuts. National champs, they all said. I saw through that sooooooo easily. Then Pitt almost beat them. The game LaVar Arrington should have gotten thrown out of _twice_. Then they lost to MINNESOTA. At home. I laughed and laughed. They are 6-13 since that game IIRC. And the papers at home STILL try to talk up Joe Paterno almost breaking the wins record. Frankly, I think they will be lucky to win even 2 games this year. The game has passed him by. Even if he somehow did manage to break the record, Bobby Bowden is only like 7 wins behind Joe Paterno, so it won’t be his for long (Although it was totally sweet when UNC whooped him 41-9). I also don’t by the “local” argument for anyone from my area liking Penn State. It’s about 4 hours to State College, but you’l be lucky to make that drive in twice that time on a game day. Which is surprising since State College is not so much a city as it is farms and a large university. It’s _empty_ out there. And people I know that actually do go to the games hate the stadium, not just for the drive and the traffic and the parking. Know how they get 108K in there? You get maybe 12 inches of butt room in a no-back bleacher seat. Also for a Pennsylvania school they do next to no recruiting in the Northeast, which has produced a couple noteworthy NFLers (Charley Trippi, Mike Munchak, the Ismail brothers) and some solid college players. Here’s to laughing at Penn State! ---

First, any trueborn Buckeye knows that it is not OSU. It is **The** Ohio State University. Second, as an adopted Hawkeye and as a double graduate of that fine university, let me say to **Vinnie** , we feel your pain and have not forgotten ours. The sun will rise in the morning; there will be a better day tomorrow; every dog will have its day; as God is my witness, I will never be hungry again (sorry wrong cliché, got carried away). I’m with **matt\_mcl**. I was shocked when SF State cut its football program. I wasn’t aware there even _was_ a football program at SF State.
