We Are The World

You’re both right - Daryl Hall sang the line once, and Bob Dylan sang it later on in the song.

Both I and db4530 posted the same link. If you looked at it, you would see that the line “It’s true we’ll make a better day, just you and me” is sung three times, the first time by Michael Jackson and Diana Ross, the second time by Daryl Hall. The third time it is apparently sung by everyone.

Cyndi Lauper and Stevie Wonder truly make WATW listenable–they both give me goosebumps when I hear their voices in that song.

Also, wasn’t it Lionel Ritchie who sang the first line?

There comes a time
when we heed a certain call…

Can someone explain why the hell Dan Ackroyd was in the chorus?

Because he was half of the Blues Brothers.

The website linked to, like 90% of the stuff on the Internet, is wrong.

Apparently who ever listened to the song and matched the voices up with the performers never bothered to actually listen to the entire song, but then that’s what happens when you have kids with short attention spans.

Bob Dylan does indeed sing the “There’s a choice we’re makin, Yeah we’re savin’ our own lives…” bit.

KSG,

Sigh

It would be nice if you would stop trying to twist the facts to fit how you feel about someone.

Prince was not supposed to sing what ended up being Huey Lewis’s line, he had another line to sing. But as he has said in interviews, Prince didn’t feel comfortable being in the same place with all of those superstars, especially Michael Jackson, because Prince was used to being in control of things and he wouldn’t have been in this situation.

As for the nightclub incident, what actually happened was that Prince and his party were leaving a nightclub and were in their limo, when a paparrazzi asshole jumped in the limo and started taking pics. Rightly fearing for their safety, Prince’s bodyguards responded.

Yeah, but he was the (mostly) silent half.

Sorry, Jump Out A Tree, I misread your question. Yes, Daryl Hall sang the “just you and me” part of that line, too.

And Hello Kitty, you’re right, Lionel Richie sings the first line.

My favorite parts of that song were the Bruce Springsteen and Ray Charles solos at the end (during the chorus repeat).

Regarding the bodyguard incident, I keep getting the image of that SNL skit in my head. You remember the one…

There comes a time when you must heed a certain call
Bodyguards, calling to be set free
But they went ahead and held the sessions anyway
But those mothers aren’t the world without me!

I am also the world!
I am also the children!
something something
Now ain’t that givin’?

[emphasis mine]

Thanks for the clarification. So is it okay with you if I call him a “scrawny little CONTROL FREAK fucktard” now?

And if it wasn’t Huey Lewis’s line he was supposed to sing, whose was it? I’d always heard it was Huey’s.
