We can lock you up forever, now...

Well some of these ‘partisans, terrorists or guerillas’ have now been released:

“…repeated beatings and humiliation suffered by three Britons who were captured in Afghanistan, then held in Guantánamo Bay for two years, before being released in March without charge.”

Oh, look! They were innocent.

“They were then released without charge by British police.”

If only there was some right to trial. Or the right to see a lawyer. Even to see your family would be nice. And not to be tortured.

“they were repeatedly punched, kicked, slapped, forcibly injected with drugs, deprived of sleep, hooded, photographed naked and subjected to body cavity searches and sexual and religious humiliations…”

All this brought to you by the US Government.

And of course, I’ve been advocating all along that the scum in Gitmo should just be shot, not even bother with torture, if they have anything to tell us, it’s not as important as showing that pissing off the US is going to get you dead. After all, Pax Americana is the best thing to ever possibly happen to the world. Law is what we say it is, and if it’s inconvenient we should just ignore it.

It’s not like these are really humans.

Besides, it’s fun to torture. It’s not like I’ve any reason to worry about it ever happening to me. I’m safe. No one’s ever abused anyone because of mental illness. Or because of their ancestry. Or because they simply don’t fit it.

<sarcasm off>

When they came for those accused of terrorism, I said nothing, because I was not accused of terrorism…

When they came for the foreigners, I said nothing, because I was not a foreigner…

When they came for the collaborators and the symphathizers, I said nothing, because I was not a collaborator or a symphathizer…

When they came for the dissenters, I said nothing, because I was not a dissenter…

When they came for those who might know something, I said nothing, because I know nothing…

When they came for those who were suspected, I said nothing, because I was not suspected…

When they came for those who seemed suspicious, I said nothing, because I was not suspicious…

When they came for those whose names were on file, I said nothing, because my name was not on file…

When they came for me, there was no one left to stand up for me.

I am allergic to the sham
That is the United States of America.
And woe the republic
On which it treads,
One World Order,

OVERDOG,

Invisible liberty,
No justice,

Fuck y’all.

(don’t forget to put your hand over your heart while reciting)

Wow. ILMV1, that’s pretty harsh. Don’t forget that we do still have the freedom to openly resist what’s going on here, and that plenty of people are doing so. There’s still a lot to love about America. A lot of evil, too, but plenty to praise.

You’re right. It was really harsh and I don’t actually believe all of it. It’s just a little ditty that a friend of mine wrote and when I am involved in discussions such as this one I become really ashamed of my country.

But it is my country and I still have a lot of pride in it. And I have a lot of hope that we will get past this very dark chapter in our history and be stronger for it. It’s going to take a lot of ostriches pulling their heads up, though.

OtakuLoki,

You posted "what is your suggestion for dealing with partisans, terrorists or guerillas? "

My point was that the US is not bothering to find out whether people are even in these categories. They just stick them in Guantanamo and torture them.

The answer to your question is that we have laws to deal with people.

When any State ignores the right to trial, to a lawyer etc, then it has become uncivilised.

Some low level staffer circles words with a crayon and pastes the appropiate paragraphs from a word processor.

Dear Mr. Plant,
Thanks you for your concern on

[reinstituting slavery].

I have studied this problem, and I am much smarter than you and morally superior.

[If we don’t reinstitute slavery, we can’t afford to pay the people who scrub our floors].

Thank you for your time,
Senator Jack Meouf.

One hopes somewhere along the line someone makes hash marks with a crayon and our Fearless Leaders see a total.
